First Oil change and Inspection has come up.

Dealer says it’s a major service, approaching 19k miles. Hull and York Audi, both quoting around £360 which doesn’t include courtesy car, that’s another £12. (JCT600)

Looking further afield and Wakefield Audi quoting over £400! (Sytner)

Everyone else get similar quotes?
Shocked me a bit as a colleagues’ S4 Avant 3.0 was the same price just a week ago!

Ouch!

Plenty threads on here about "rip-off" service prices on here.

Aren't the service prices supposed to be fixed?

I think the fixed price is only for cars more than 3 years old.

How fair is that?

No it isn't. Its oil and filter, pollen filter and a few checks that take seconds.

Do you actually understand what I just wrote ?

I said that 19k mileage before the 1st service was good value, I didnt say anything about the price of the service.

Jeees !

How long do you expect a car to go on before its serviced ?

Yes I understand - I'm clever!

Value is about money, not time or distance.

I expect the car to tell me how many miles before service as it is on the variable service regime.

You don't get value for money at Audi, if you want Value for Money buy a Dacia. BMW, Merc & Audi are so called "prestige" brands so except prestige pricing.

You can however try the following to reduce these servicing costs.
  • Third party servicing, but you must use genuine parts. (Check with your finance company or lease company if you don't own the car, they may require FASH)
  • Buy your own oil and genuine service parts (TPS) Dealers cannot refuse to use your parts to reduce the costs, as long as the parts are genuine Audi.
  • Get written quotes from 3rd party service centres (But they mush be using genuine parts) and Audi should match the price.

Agreed^^

I plan to service my PCP A3 at my trusted Audi Indy who I know use genuine parts and who’s ‘technicians’ are all Audi trained (I know because they display the certificates in the reception area).

That’s of course assuming you can use indy’s for PCP cars?

Check with the finance company, it may also affect any guaranteed future value. Or if selling private it may put people off the fact it's got no Audi service history.

As long as the garage is VAT registered and uses genuine parts you should be fine.
They are all ex Audi employees who set up business on their own and definitely VAT registered. Cheers.

Will do, cheers.

The finance company can't tell you where to get the car serviced.

They may not be able to tell you but as I said it may be a requirement for guaranteed future value.

When I had my old A3 1.4 COD serviced at Lincoln Audi (JCT600 Group) just over a year ago they matched a written quote I’d had from another garage with no fuss at all. Brought the price down from about £350 to £140 and that included a courtesy car.

Sorry to hijack but my S3 will be due a service in a few months, has anyone else had any luck with getting price matches more recently for services?

Has anyone ever had a condition placed on them with regards servicing whilst on a contract or is that perhaps a myth?

Yes they can. I asked my nearest dealership (one of a large group) and they wouldn't do it.

And it's not as if I stormed in there like a purple-faced maniac with the veins on my temples standing out like whipcords, pounding my fists on the desk and demanding my rights, either.

They simply wouldn't do it.

Strange the 5 dealers I've used over the years have never had an issue with this. I Also read about a few member further way that have supplied there own oil rather than use the stuff the dealer pump into the engine.

I'm not suggesting it's widespread; not at all. I have no way of knowing that. Another dealership - part of a different gang - were okay with it.

Maybe the first lot didn't like the cut of my jib, or maybe the service bloke I spoke to had a promise on for the weekend and it never materialised.

Who knows?

The thing is there are a number of specialist VAG garages out there that have access to the online servicing system, so you can give the "stealers" a wide berth and save money whilst maintaining a full online service history.

The standard of work is often higher and means you don't have the bother of trying to get written quotes for the main dealers to price match and/or ask them if you can supply your own parts.

The olnly downside is Audi can and do refuse goodwill outside of the warrranty period if a car was serviced away from their dealer network, but it would be interesting to see if they offer it in cases where a specialist has done the work and updated the service record online.

I would say this to add to my comment. My current 2 dealers have always asked receipts for the parts and they must be genuine Audi parts (They will not accept Audi parts purchased on ebay ) They never asked about a receipt for the oil.

Try other dealers and get the parts from TPS www.tps.trade There are big discounts on servicing parts from them, and they only sell genuine VW/Audi/Skoda/Seat group parts.

However a note on the oil, from working at some Audi dealers in the past don't expect the oil you provide to go into your engine! Sometime the oil you provide disappears and you get the regular pump stuff....

A hearty recommendation and no mistake.

Questioning value for money is one thing, questioning ethics and honesty is another.

Is there a qualification or something the garage has to get, to have access to the online system?
I'm asking if there's a way to identify these garages without asking then directly. Places say they are VAG specialists and use oem parts, but I assume this isn't related.

Either way it's still saving you money and the dealers use good quality oils anyway, not the cheap rubbish you can buy from any motor factor.

I would imagine there is a clause which says you must use genuine parts to be part of the scheme.

I have spoken to two indie garages who use the vag system and they only fit genuine parrs so they are either supplied by the dealers or TPS.

How long have you had the car? I have the same engine and I remember it being 2 years or a certain amount of miles (1500?) before 1st service is due so 19,000 sounds quite a lot. I'm approaching 1300 and thinking about booking one in next couple of months.

Yeah, on the variable servicing option it’s every 19,000 as I do a lot of motorway and A road driving. At least 80miles per day commuting.
Car is nearly 11months old.

Managed to get Hull Audi down to £280 based on mentioning Halfords advertised £245 for a major service.

Though I’m still not fully convinced; local specialist with ex-Audi engineers who can register the service online, are quoting me half that.

Oh it is actually 19,000 on the variable? That's better than I thought. I don't envy your commute. Will keep my eyes on this thread to see what option you go for in the end, it seems like you're getting massive variation in prices which is worrying.

It can be up to about 19000 max depending on type of driving.

My 1.0 is predicting a service close to 19k too.

Just had a quick look on the Audi website and it might be worth quoting this if you haven’t already mentioned it https://m.audi.co.uk/owners-area/servicing-with-audi/service-price-match.html

I’ll see how I get on this time when my car goes in for it’s 1st service in May.
