As my A3 1.4 COD is coming up to 3 years old, it's due it's 1st brake fluid change, and was wondering if Audi did the work, would they do any other checks, or is this a job that can be left to any decent independent specialist?

It's an easy job, see how much Audi charge - might be under their fixed price servicing as it's 3yrs old. Figure around £45 is reasonable :)

It's very straight forward (changed my fluid twice myself) and indy will be more than capable of doing this should you choose not to have it done as part of your 3 year service or indeed have the service done at an indy.

Audi want £59 to do the work, whilst the cheapest independent charges £43. As my car is on extended service intervals, it isn't due it's next service until early next year, so the brake fluid change will be the only scheduled work required this year.....hopefully!

For the sake of £16 I'd be going to Audi.

£59 is Audi fixed servicing price for brake fluid change. Course they won't do other work or checks. Maybe they might try to get some money out of you by "realising" you need bake discs and pads or tyres but don't expect more!

Recently spoke to a person who took their Golf to a main VW dealer for a service, they told him that he needed new brake pads, he didn't take them up on their offer but went to a small local garage and asked them to check his brakes! "They have about 15,000 miles left on them sir"!!!

Apparently VW techs get paid a bonus for up selling and also for finishing a job in less time than it's booked in for! Doesn't make you feel confident that they are checking everything that they should if they are doing a rush job.
