After a few weeks of ownership I have had some time to get the car back up to scratch ( almost ).

my first job was replacing the front armrest lid which I bought for a small fortune from Audi dealer , along with the original badges for the rear ( prev owner had put S4 badge one the back) … I also added a nice black metal sline badge (non oem) blends in nicely with the grill.

The exhaust tips have been replaced for 2 power flow ( non stamped ) 3" tips

Next on the list wheel refurb… colour tbc.

i got them from my local exhaust specialist ( crackley garge kenilworth) and the tips are a powerflow 3.5" … you have to cut off existing tips which and leave a weld point at the base of the back box's (too the garage half hour to do) could do it your self if you have the kit!

You can get all the covers from the dealers, some cars had them, some don't, good upgrade to do they tidy up the engine bay,

Looks nice, are you 100% it's an S-Line with those wheels? S-Lines have 18" RS6 style wheels and I don't think have the badges front and rear.

The engine covers aren't badly priced.

Did think that about the wheels when I first saw this my s line came with rs6 18s but I also have no steering wheel badge from what I can remember from your other thread

Yes it's 100% s line.

As I said I added the front badge and replaced the rears as it was de badged on the rear ( oh and Audi main dealer Stratford confirmed male model engine etc ) as well as the v5 / dvla etc

I am not sure they have as I have all of the history from new and the ns rear tyre was replaced and that was a 17" November 2004? Maybe they spec'd it with 17" wheels from new?

Maybe the original owner preferred the ride comfort of 17's.

it does handle pretty well and as you know comfortable ride.

Pretty sure 17" is standard s line. Same as B7 s lines.

Early b6 sport models were on 16's!!

Yes I did check the full size spare which is the same 17" wheel?

When I go to the dealer next I will ask the question if these wheels are standard or were changed at time of purchase?

Strange that they went back to 17's on the B7s, I guess they were just leaving themselves room to update the range later.

I think the B6 S-Line was quite an exclusive edition, by the time the B7's came along most Audi's seem to be wearing S-Line nomenclature and a lot of that exclusivity was lost.

James is definitely right. My s line has 18s from factory and so do all I have seen. Sports had 17s but maybe the original purchaser preferred the style of the 17s (not sure why )

Mate if you like the 17s don't buy 18s just cos they were the right ones/forum peer pressure lol tbf though there's loads of rs6/sline wheels knocking around for as little as 300-400 squid which ain't bad for audi wheels most are mega expensive

No Peer pressurr i like the 17's and have put new rubber on all 4 but if I see a set of 18's that need some work or cheap it would be the right thing to do if that's what Audi intended!?

JJ, if that was mine, I'd keep those wheels until the tyres needed replacing and then put a set of Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme's on them (for winter) and keep your ear to the ground for a nice set of 18" RS6's until then.

17" is perfect for winter tyres and 18's look nice and mean without being too low profile... but jmho, but they are just a bit too low for driving around in winter slush (or in general on winter roads).... plus you'll save your good summer tyres a lot of wear if you only use them in summer!

edit: Not sure about the 17's, but my winter tyres (16's), used to cost me £99 a corner and my 18" summers were £160 a corner for the Pirelli P Zero's... given that those summers wear 40% quicker below 7C than proper winter compound rubber, so it was "cheaper" to change tyres for winter, not just safer!

Agreed, they're nice alloys and suit the car well: certainly a cracking option for winters and not bad at all for summer. I've never thought "those need to be changed ASAP" for decent 17's like those... unlike my Trapese 16's! Although my old 16's looked okay once I put 15mm spacers on them... "okay" (and functional), not "great"...

I practice what I preach: I did the same thing for my old A4 B6: 16" Trapeze sports for winter on the Wintrac's (and got S4 18's for summer, on Toyo Proxes T1-R's). And I'm using the same principle for current car (A6 C7); except 45 profile* on 245mm wide tyres means my 18's actually have a LOT of rubber around them... so those will be my winter wheels and I'm looking for 19" twin-spokes or turbines for summer, albeit only after I've finished on my current set of P Zero's that only have 200-odd miles on them...

* profile means the height of the sidewall is a ratio of the wheel size AND the tyre width: hence why OEM 235/40/18's are so much bigger than the rubberband look of 215/40/18's...
