Been searching for a bit (may be my searching skills?) but i cannot find anything related... however

i was on the way home this evening and the a3 was fine untill i pulled onto a straight and accelerated, not hard, and she hesitated so i backed off and then tried again and hestatated again so i dropped her out of gear and let her idle and she cut out. i switched of and then back on and she spluttered then back to norm for rest of drive.

I had this issue every now and then last summer and just b4 winter i cleaned tb (Had issues with bouncy idle) replace coolant sensor etc etc and all seemd ok. untill now.

It seems wierd that simply witching off then on has "fixed" the issue untill it happenes again and also time of year unless that is some wierd coincedence.

anyway anyone have any thoughts? i have considered maybe fuel pump/filter although only 2 weeks back she had a full service.

Cheers :)

cheers for the reply, can the maf be intermittent? or is it, it either works or not?

been fine today, however a slightly twichy idle.... is there any chance it could still be the tb? maybe not cleaned it right i spent ages on it. grrrrr not throwing any codes, for this reason i dont think taking it to a garage would make much sense, it wont do it when they have it at a bet. be paying money for mechanics to scrath their heads..

i got the same sort of problem woth my A3.

it will randomly just drop power for a split second every now and again.

fitted a new MAF made no diffference. serviced every 6 months, new coolant temp and stat.

how clean is your TB :p

i get no fault codes either.

lol i would say it wasnt far off that..... could it be the colour.....Gold? hehe

right this cant be coincedence. been out in car today to ironically get some carb cleaner to give my tb another clean to make sure that isnt my issue. then on way back car judders whilst changing through gears normally driving, at this point i know its going to conk it. sure enough once i let it drop to idle it dies. then started her again and she coughs abit then back to normal but this time (perhaps cos its i nice day and i had windows down) i get a brief smell of petrol.

it seems to always happen on nice days

any clues?

see this was my thinking but i dont want to be another person that goes out buys a maf and finds it isnt the fix. She had a service about 5 weeks ago wich included the fuel filter and plugs etc

After the nice weather break downs i am leaning more toward the maf what with it being air pressure/density/tempurature etc etc...

i think i am just gonna bite it and try a new maf cant hurt i guess

right i have attached a new maf to her and it doesnt seem to have made a difference, anyway. I was reading a post from Prawn around mid last year i think and he mentioned his a3 misses when it is warm and he put it down to the ignitiona amp..... looking at what you have said prawn looks like a carbon copy of my issue... so i am gonna get that cleaned up and tested with me multimeter and see what gives.

Hopefully i will get to the root of this soon. otherwise its gong to be coil packs and fuel pump. aahhh if it dont fix it... its still another reciept that adds to the history hehehehe

my problem has gone now.

took out the ign amp.

cleaned the pins and the connector blocks, when putting it back together i used thermal paste (only £1 of ebay)

i haven't had any hesitation since

hope you find your problem mate

its yours an AGU or AUM mate? AUM's don't have an ignition amp.

My misfire when warm under boost turned out to be spark plugs with a gap too big all those years ago!

sticking DV valve ?????

No mate got a new 007p on there. that resolved other issues when fitted.

Jay i did this last night however, even tho i am an it dude, i havnt got any thermal paste so just cleaned it up and it has made a little diff. however i want to get some paste on there.

mine is a agu prawn.... i hope mine isnt plugs as that would suggest that when i had a full service by an audi specialist garage, they didnt change pkugs despite it being on the list of thisngs replaced..... i guess i am gonna have to use my beadies to inspect if the amp doesnt resolve.

thinking back she did feel a lot smoother this morning but then she mostley is untill its warmer wich would suggest the thermal contact between the amp and the heatsink nested in the airbox is failing.

well ignition amp seems to have been the culprit in the slight missing fiasco!!! got some thermal paste to finalise the job and my yellow 007p spring turned up today woo hooo

ok that was short lived lol misfiring back.........

did some logging this evening after work the problem looks to me (untrained eye) to deffo be with ignition so i think i am going to fork out for a new one as this one must be fried or something? unless of course i am wrong, wich if you ask the missus , is quite often..... also what with the possibility of a cone filter at some point would i be best off getting a aftermarket ignition amp? or will a sensibly placed oem be sufficient?
