had my s3 in for first oil change in
june 2016 and it was on 9k,
now in april 2017 its on 15,500 its saying inspection in 30days or 3600 miles and oil change in 9700 miles or 325 days just wanted to know if the inspection it wants now is worth it and wot is included?

The inspection service is an essential part of the service schedule, and you need to have it performed by a VAT registered garage if you want to keep your warranty.

It includes things like inspection of tyre tread depth, inspection of brake pads, check all lighting works, inspect suspension, check coolant/oil levels, check for leaks, check washer fluid, etc. The basic inspection does not include parts.

If due, then service items like spark plugs, brake linings, filters, etc. could be performed at the same time, at additional cost, if due.

Costs vary. I've had quotes in the £300-£400 range from franchised audi dealers.

sounds like i will be calling my local independent garage. i have had new wheels only a few months ago with brand new tyres so that wont be a problem, month ago i fitted refurbished r8 front calipers with new pads, discs and lines so they will all be ok....the car is not my daily either. so i guess it might get plugs and oil filter change at best. would do it myself but its all about the stamps in the book :(

Mine went in with every mod in my sig the only comment was that it had the wrong size tyres on - not surprising after moving to 19s so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Don't forget to make sure the independant can access the Audi on-line system to correctly update the service record - or warranty could suffer.

Its worth trying to talk to a service advisor rather than the people on reception who book you in for a service if using an Audi main dealer.

I was due an inspection service. Car was 3 years old. I was quoted £270 . When I questioned the price and what was actually carried out for that amount of money ... it pretty much changed everytime I called up. The price was just to visually check car ( no fluids ). If I wanted an oil change it was £400+. Really I said thats crazy!, just to "look" at the car.

When I asked them to price match / lower the price based on another forum member who had also had an inspection service @ £128 ( ie just look, not even MOT as that was carried out seperately). They very swiftly lowered price to £158. Far more reasonable, but still a bit toppy all things considered for a "look".

When I spoke to a Service Advisor he pointed out to me that Audi offer cheaper prices once cars hit 3 yrs old. This takes at least another £100+ off the price. However its worth noting the cheaper prices also put u onto yearly service plans rather than every 2 years/ variable service. Thats fine for some but not all.

Long story short if I booked my car in for an inspection service week 1 I would have paid full price @£270+, after discussion It dropped to £158. When it actually went in I paid just £58 and that included a brake fluid change... go figure !! Didnt need anything else. I had an oil change less than 6 months and less than 2,000 miles earlier so that wasn't required.

If you dont ask/ question you dont get!

Got to love main dealers, but if you want to keep the all important Audi service history ( as mentioned by other posters ), its all part of the fun and games

You're the same as me mate. My 1st oil change/checks was done in 2016 @ 7,381 miles. The Audi main dealer did that, after they had done the service I had to go back in and ask them to reset the MMI as it was still showing it needed a service!!!

This year my MMI was all over the place like yours, they hadn't set it correctly! As I do less than 10k per year I'm on a yearly service schedule, so this year I needed an oil service and inspection @ 13,875 miles. This second service is the same as the 1st plus a pollen filter.

Audi quoted: Cheshire Oaks Audi: £365, Crewe Audi: £401.19, Liverpool Audi: £439.80

So I had it done at 'Unit20', which is a highly rated Audi specialist, they did it for £220. They even gave me a stamped service book which I took back to Cheshire Oaks Audi and got them to stamp the 1st service space lol. Unit20 did log it online, but it's not the same system as the main dealership use, it's a thing called Erwin...I've not looked into that much TBH, as long as you have receipts to say the work has been done to Audi standards with genuine Audi parts any warranty is covered...I know as I asked Audi UK:

PS* Don't worry what the inspection service is saying, just take it in every 12 months and they will do what needs to be done and reset it, just keep an eye on the oil service.

audi are telling me it will be £341 for its first inspection including oil change and pollen filter. i think i must be on the short service intervals as the car says the next oil change is due in 9000 miles or 325 days

That's the problem you have! Each time you speak to another person you get told something different, it should be fixed across the Audi range like it is once the car is 3+ years old.

Think year 3 is the brake fluid change as well as the oil. Still more than a good independant would charge.

Yes year three .Told me on the phone that service will last me 2 years so going to cough up & just get it done lost faith with some of the independents iv used in the past.

How many miles per year do you do? If it's under 10k you will need an oil service next year!

@S3118 I had my three year work done 4 months early as the car needed servicing at that time (39k). In addition to the inspection, oil and filter it included pollen filter, plugs, Haldex oil change, brake fluid change and I asked them to change the wipers. All in just a tad over £500 at my dealer.

Not sure what you're getting for your money, but adding plugs + Haldex (which are 3 year items) will bring your price up towards what I paid... :)

A lot depends on what milage you do, spark plugs: Perform first at 35,000 miles or 6 years, whichever occurs first.

Agreed. The car had 38,000 on it and the book (14 plate S3) calls for 3 years or 38,000 (which translates approximately to the manufacturers scheduled 'mileage' of 60,000km ;) )

Change of plan I'm now not having the full inspection as my car only covered 20k & not a daily driver so just booked in for an oil & filter change ,plus the MOT break fluid change . Bit lighter on my walet :)
