Im just wondering if anyone has had much success with fitting one of these aftermarket arm rests you see on ebay all the time?

If so which one have you used and does it look good in the 8l?

Im just a but worried it will look cheap and naff, especially in the way it attaches to the car, I just cant justify the £100 or so the genuine 10 year old S3 arm rests go for with bits missing and such

i think the untiversal one would look pretty rubbish in the a3

Personally, I would only fit a genuine one due to the potential pitfalls of fitting to the centre console. You can pick genuine ones up on ebay fairly regularly which is what i did recently and installed easily within two hours with minimum fuss and now looks factory fitted due to the design which fits over the holes that required to be cut in the centre console. There is a recent thread on the forum which is discussing this and the fitting instructions of a genuine arm rest which will give you a better idea of what i am talking about. Genuine ones will also often be colour matched with the seat materials but again, this could be adapted.

Have to say that it does give greater comfort on long journeys, looks good, i do love the cup holders in mine but...its a pain changing gear, especially once a quickshift is in situ and makes you feel like an old man. I often have to pop mine up and out of the way when driving enthusiastically. However, i guess it was worth the £90 and 2 hour labour i invested into it. Hope this helps.
