Ive just finished installing my new cheap and cheerful 35w 6000k h1 HID Kit in my 2002 Audi A3, the kit works perfect and the lights are great, however theres 1 issue that is just worrying me slightly in that sometimes when I turn the headlights on now the wipers clear the screen once or twice!

I had read there was an issue with the 8P's blowing wiper motors, but didnt think the 8L's had the same issue?

Im just a little worried that the HID kit is causing a surge of power to the wiper motor for some reason?

Is the hid kit on a separate relay or straight off the headlight bulb

The kit is straight off the headlight feed I realise putting a relay in would be safer but I was under the impression this wasnt needed for the 8l's as there was no issue?

Ok I have noticed that it only causes the wipers to trigger when turning the units on from cold, once the lights and warm they can be turned off and on without causing any issues to the wipers.

However I presume it is the initial surge of power to start the ballasts that is causing some sort of surge to the wipers, I have purchased one of these relays HID Xenon Relay Wiring Harness H1 H7 H11 880 881 9006 | eBay hopefully it should fix the issue before I do any damage to the wiper motor.

I believe the trick to make sure the wiper motors doesnt blow is to make sure the lights are on before turning the wiper motor on, i.e. dont have the wipers going and then turn on the lights as this is what fried the 8p wiper motors!

Yeah defo worth putting the relay in it just for your piece of mind and only a few quid

For anyone else who comes across this I replaced the kit with another kit and it has resolved the issue.

I think the problem may have been because I bought a canbus kit originally and I have a feeling this may have been causing the surge when I replaced the setuo for a none canbus setup it has resolved the problem.
