Hi all, i havent used the car for the last 2.5 weeks as i have been on holiday. jumped into it today and reversed of the drive and as i did water started pouring out from behind the dash and into the passenger footwell. Does anyone have any ideas where it might be coming from or whats causing is? i put the heating on afterwards and it was blowing out hot air as normal.

Check to see if there's water where the battery is.
If so u need to take out the battery and there is a rubber drainage grommit underneath it.
This is blocked so just push it out.
There is another one behind the brake server which is harder to get out but popping one out should do.

He has an A3 not an A4...

Hi. It's most likely to be water going under the scuttle panel at the bottom of the windscreen and down through the pollen filter into the car.
It can be fixed by removing the scuttle panel and cutting a sheet of thin plastic to fit up under the windscreen and down onto where the rubber strip goes along the front of the scuttle panel. It's also worth taking the pollen filter out, it's probably soaking anyway, undoing the two nuts which hold down the pollen filter housing, removing the housing, and sealing round the base where it fits onto the bodywork. Whilst you're in there it's also worth sealing round the plastic part on the drivers side of the bulkhead where the wiring goes through and finally cutting a square sheet of thick polythene and covering round the ECU to prevent it getting wet as well.

+1 for it being the pollen filter, common not to of been fitted correctley.

I've just emptied the water out from underneath my battery this morning, there was a grommit underneath the battery but with no holes in it. I took it out to empty the water but put it back in worried that the water might drain through to parts in the engine?

The grommit underneath the brake server I left out tho, hoping the water will drain through that. ( that had holes in but were blocked )
Hope it drains now, don't fancy doing that job for a while again.

right had alook and doesnt appear to be any water under battery how ever there was a gap between scuttle and windscreen, i removed pollen filter and it was wet in one corner and about an inch of water in the box underneath it so it looks like i have found my problem. tried re fitting scuttle so it sits flush but the gap just repeatidly re opens up. could i use a bead of winscreen bonder along it to hold it up agains the screen or should i be looking at replacing ti completely

I've been there and bought the t shirt, hence my earlier post. The chap who mentioned the battery is referring to the A4 which has the battery in a different place. I'd forget trying to refit the scuttle so it fits totally flush and forget buying a new scuttle panel as it will never fit flush either.

Sealant would be a temp fix IMO... the plastic scuttle panels aren't that expensive from what I have heard and might be worth giving a dealer a call...

Just found this thread as I am having the same issue with the scuttle not cliping into the bit below the windscreen. My scuttle is intact as is the strip its meant to go into, it just refuses to stay clipped in ! Any thoughts ?

when i removed mine the strip that it clips into was full of crap. i cleaned it out with an old toothbrush and re fitted. it still doesnt hold in fush with the screen however it doesnt appear to be leaking any more

I bought a brand new scuttle cover and it still has a gap between screen and cover! Gonna wait for a dry day and seal it i reckon. Seems the only way to go.

I had this problem a few weeks back and got all plastics and gaskets replaced around the pollen filter, but the guy who mounted it still wasn't confident it would work because he couldn't get scuttle cover to clip in properly. His solution was to mount the scuttle cover with the same sealant they use for the windscreen. I doubt it can be removed without breaking it, but the car is dry :icon_thumright:
