12v Ciggeratte Lighter/Socket not working - & its NOT the fuse!

Hi,

I have been using one of those griffin dual usb in car chargers for a while now and its all been find until my friend decided to charge his iphone at the same time and It just stopped working completely.

After a search on here i replaced fuse 24 with a new 20amp & have even swapped it over with another 20amp fuse. I also took the socket apart and gave it a clean (was a bit of black residue/dirt after it 'blew up') but its still not working.

All the contacts are clean and is touching (tried with a new car charger & the ciggeratte lighter). The light around the socket powers up and is in fairly good condition. I am baffled -has anyone come across this before??

Has the phone charger gone tits up? Some have internal surface mount fuse.

Lol I dont know because i threw the charger away thinking it was the problem. I am using a new car charger & ciggeratte lighter to check for power. Starting to think there may be a bigger problem...

cant be a very big problem
a wire fuse or the socket
is there any power geting to the socket iv had to replace a few in the past

the light turns on, so im assuming its getting power from somewhere. I haven't got anything to get a voltages reading though.

just cos the light comes on doesnt mean the socket will work
the light is just that a light on the lighting ring

hmm alright thanks, guess ill try to source a new socket & then post results
