Hopefully some of you can assist me in this predicament, as after 9 months and a shed load of cash, I'm coming close to the end of mytether.

Firstly some great fault codes;

17544/P1136/004406 - Ross-Tech Wiki which is Fuel trim bank 1, system is too lean.
16955/P0571/001393 - Ross-Tech Wiki Brake Light Switch (F): Implausible Signal.
18010/P1602/005634 - Ross-Tech Wiki Power Supply B+ Terminal 30: Voltage too Low

The recurring ones (which have also cost me enough to sort out)
16396/P0012/000018 - Ross-Tech Wiki Bank 1: Camshaft A (Intake): Advance Setpoint not Reached (Over-Retarded)
16727/P0343/000835 - Ross-Tech Wiki Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Signal too High

The last two I have been back and forth for since February 2011, and I had the cam shaft tensioners and chains changed along with a cam belt which was not tightened properly by a previous garage when the last owner had it. And even after this was carried out, problems persisted and this carries on. I have been to another VAG specialist who stated he couldn't find anything wrong.

The former three, especially the lean message, again nothing could be found which may have caused the issue. I'm running out of ideas/patience/money to keep trying to fix the problems; I just want to enjoy my car as I have always wanted. The car doesn't idle properly, and engine management light is on too intermittantly. I thought it may be a dodgy remap? I took the car to AMD in thurrock to see if it had a remap which they confirmed. However they didn't know who provided or what brand was the remap.

Help me please!!! Has anyone encountered this? If so what did you do to remedy this?

Thank you in advance.

17544 looks like a vacuum leak... checking block 032 after a run (no need to log) you should see a large(ish) value in the first field indicating that the ECU has been adding fuel... smoke test will find the culprit if you can't see it visually...

16955, common enough... new brake switch required...

18010.... have you tried clearing this to see if it comes back? crap battery? poor earth causing voltage drops? clear it ans see if it returns...

16396 will most likely be the result of a problem causing 16727... looks like there is a possible fault with the cam position sensor on the inlet cam...if the cam sensor is faulty then it will make the ecu think it can't see the cam timing and throw the 16396 code... either will turn on the CEL...

Maybe the cam sensor was damaged from the work you had done, seems a little too conicedental to me...

Fixing the cam sensor problem (16727) should sort the 16396 issue..

The specialist couldn't find a fault with the first code, he told me he checked twice and no vacuum leak. The erratic tick over, is it any relation to this problem or more likely the camshaft sensor problem.

Thank you tufty.

Erratic tickover suggests vacuum leak.... the tickover shouldn't be unaffected by the cam sensor
