IS it just my S3 or does everyone elses use alot of fuel?

Ive put £60 in so far since i bought the car on the 30th of July so just over a week.

I only used to put £20 a week in my Mgf lol

I hate putting petrol in too really annoys me (not just the cost but actually having to get out my car and put it in)
Think thats a woman thing though lol!!

:)

fill up once a week usually about 65-75 quid. will last a week/300 ish miles.

my mpg has shot up since owning my s3. was at about 26.8 its now at 29.1.

i think thats the price you pay for a powerful car with 4wd dragging along! they aint no 1.8 k series!

I fill up every 4 weeks average 400/460 miles it is standard though not sure if that makes a difference and that costs £85

If you are doing 100miles to a tank of fuel then you either have a heavy right foot or some other problem... failed CTS / thermostat are common problems leading to excessive fuel consumption but has to be said fuel consumption is very subjective..

I can do over 26mpg taking it fairly easy and I have a big turbo... spirited driving nukes that....

Okay im gonna wait until the fuel light comes on put in £40 quid and set the milage to zero and see how many miles i do before i need to refuel!! Id put more in but i get paid weekly and ill be poor if i put more than that in one go hahha!!

Reset the DIS too... that will tell you (roughly) your average MPG and switched to the live MPG you can see how badly you are doing :)

no probs... S3's can be thirsty little buggers... ironically my big turbo can be more economical if driven off boost as spool is later...

mileage will also depend on your journeys... I have never got more than 300miles out of a tank but I have to go up and down hills where I live to get anywhere... motorway mileage of course will give you better returns but keeping your foot will always end up drinking the stuff...

When it was £1 a litre it was fine, £1.45 a ltr is a joke tbh...

I know fuel prices are a joke! I do lots of 10mile journeys! When i bought the car i did a 90mile drive back starting with 1/2 a tank of petrol when i got home was just inbetween the red and 1/4! SO thought that was good! must be my short trips!!

I get on average about 50 miles to a tenner, full tank is roughly £85 of V Power and that gets me just over 400 miles, it was brilliant when it was about a pound a litre as it was about 60 quid for a full tank, and I was easily getting 420 miles off that, every fill up.

Come on guys (& girls), none of this "mileage to the £" (or tenner Nilz!) rubbish. To be comparable you need to talk mpg. (BTW, I've never stuffed a tenner down the fuel pipe myself but I'm sure it wouldn't go far on that).

I drive 25miles/day (round trip) to work along country lanes, at 40-60mph (ish...) and generally get around 30mpg according to the DIS. However, I've yet to work out what this is in reality (ie whether the DIS is lying). From memory I tend to put in about 45l (which is about 10 gallons) per 300miles or so (when about 1/4 tank left), so that is in fact around 30mpg. I don't drive like Miss Daisy, but then again I am rarely stuck in traffic so benefit from "maintaining momentum" if you get the idea...

Oh, and ALWAYS on Shell V-Power.

A tank of fuel takes me on average about 370 miles and cost about £76 which considering the perfromance i dont think is too bad really, a mate with a Focus ST is chuffed if he gets anything over 22 MPG. If your doing lots of short journeys it wont be helping things, on a long motorway run I can get about 420 from a tank.

OK OK!!!

My MPG is showing as 31.7, which im very pleased with...even though I dont like filling up every week. ;)

Not a s3 but still same litre engine. i got a mk4 gti and i struggle to make 20pound last a week. fair enough i do 40miles a day but it never used to drink so much. these days i be driving like ms daisy. so if your late for work becasue some guy is scared of the accelerator pedal... its probably me!

I've been testing my car out this week and so far have put in about £40 of super unleaded and done about 60 miles.................granted I am running it hard but still it's depressing filling up knowing that I will be back again in no time to put another £20 in.

quick question, does anyone know a reason why my car is running rich? i started her up after work and all i could smell strong petrol fumes. maybe this is why petrol doesnt last

38mpg average. get an A3 :p and thats mixed driving. chillin can get me 42-45 mpg

unsure what i get roughly 24 round town and 35 motorway £60 normally lasts me 2 weeks

Im about the same, but I do drive my car for fun a couple of evenings a week.

I averaged 29. something on the way to AITP cruising at 70 (ish) and giving it the beans a few times to get past/avoid feckwits!

Same here, about 26 MPG if I potter about, also with a big blower.

However the moment the foot goes down, that all goes to hell in a handcart.

I've noticed better fuel economy since being back on a standard turbo from a hybrid for sure.

I think I'm getting about 22mpg round town and about 28 on a run.
A full tank of V Power will get me between 285 and 315 miles, it's not great but fortunatley I dont do many miles and a tank lasts me about 3 weeks.

I remember a while ago me and Jojo went out for a spin in an RS6 Avant and that was averaging 6mpg!!

Guess we got to count ourselves lucky boys and girls :)

@Paradox - are you sure you are getting 60miles to £40 and that isnt a typo??

If so, there has to be something wrong there??

boggo 1.8T - short runs, i do use my right foot a bit i average 33mpg. if i do sensible motorway runs (75-80) then average goes to 40-42mpg on a tank.

at the opposite end of the scale. a group B S1 quattro that i work on does almost 2 litres a minute in stage (and the furl for that costs over £3 a litre). Or the lola T70 (5litre chevy, 530bhp) uses the same.....

Just looked after work and im doing 23mpg so i suppose thats why its costing alot!

Have you cleared the counter since you got it? Mine used to show 20mpg, I clear mine on different runs to see what I get, after a motorway drive it shows 33mpg, if i'm driving around town 27mpg.

Sorry i obviously cant count.
so let start again, i try to put 20quid in a week and do abut 40miles a week. petrol usually get to empty on thursday evening maybe thursday if im lucky. My car stinks of petrol when i start her up though. my remapped tweeked last week but im guessing the tuners would have mentioned if something was wrong......
