Hi guys

can anyone recommend a specialist in the kings Lynn area who can help me with my B7? there is a slight hesitation in the engine as it approaches 2k rpm it went into limp mode last night and the garage who has been dealing with it have replaced the air flow meter and that hasnt made any difference and they advised me to drive it hard as it might be all blocked up, which i have done and still no joy! have a warranty which i have little faith in and dont wanna have to get rid of the car!

any ideas or suggestions?

TIA

Kev

have you had the car scanned for fault codes ?

yes the garage suggested that an electrician looked at it as it wasnt pressuring the turbo (i think) they think it maybe the egr valve (think that is what they said) as you can probably tell i do not have much of an idea about cars,

Doesn't sound much like they know anything either. What engine is it? 3 things spring to mind (but it depends which engine it is). If it's a 2.0 TDi, then check the MAP sensor (in the intercooler air ducting running along the bottom of the intercooler), the boost pressure regulator (two different types), and finally the turbo is a variable vein unit and they become clogged with soot and seize up (they are cleanable). All the above would cause problams like you describe and they are 3 common faults for giving these symptoms. If you're close to Northumberland I could have a look for you. I am a Vehicle Technician and I have VCDS.

hi i live in Norfolk so too far to travel! the engine is 2.0 tdi (170 if that makes any difference) yesterday the power started to fluctuate between 3k and 4k rpm don't know if this helps, i really like the car but am pulling my hair out cos of this ongoing problem....... seems to be really difficult to diagnose.

One thing i forgot to mention was hoses (air intake and intercooler), if these are holed it would cause this fault (usually though you would hear a whistle as the air is sucked through the hole), similarly, if rubber hoses have weakened due to oil contamination, the walls will deteriorate and on boost they can suck flat causing restricted air flow to the turbo and giving rise to the above fault. A few things to check there. Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Gary it's finally been diagnosed as a faulty turbo 62k miles, it's likely that the warranty company won't cover it (bull•hit small print) it's just a problem proving to people (namely the garage I bought it from) that the fault is intermittent! Rant over!
Love the car but not the grief

Trust it to have been the expensive fault . Always the case eh? At least you've got it sorted.

I doubt the turbo has gone, its just a coy so you spend atleast a grand buying and fitting another one. Most likely case is that the vnt actuator has become sticky, hence the turbo vanes wont move so freely at boost pressures. The trick that fixed mine, was chemical clean on the turbo, not a long job. Take the 3 bolts of the back of the turbo/exsaust down pipe, and spray some oven cleaner in towards the turbo, sit, wait, do it again, after 24hrs...eh voila, new car, and exceptional power!

As I said above, the turbo is cleanable, and the dealer is obviously choosing the easy option and the most cash generating option for themselves. Kev, it is worth trying the cleaning option first. When I did one I actually took it off the car and stripped it to clean it, but the oven cleaner method sounds good lol :sm4:
