Single din to Double din conv. On facelift S3

Hey all.

Done searches on google to no avail, nothing solid to what I want to know.

As the title suggests, I'm aiming to change from single to double din. I'm picking up the entire centre console section bar the climate controls (incidentally I'm looking for some cheers :-D) as I want to attempt the swap myself.

Is there a guide to doing this or can someone point me in the right direction? Any other parts needed? Will be going aftermarket for the headunit. :)

Hey.
Yeah i was looking at doing this a few months ago. I've been told you have to take apart most of the dash/center console to get to the screws to release the cage.
Also not to rain on your parade but nobody currently makes a surround for double din aftermarket head units. None of them fit but you might be able to get a similar fitting surround and fab it to fit.
That's what's put me off doing it all ! Lol

Has anyone completed this then? There is absolutely nothing that I can find anywhere on this. Seems people add the RNS items on.

nope, not that I saw. Mine was single din. I take it your AMK is double?

They came in both single and double din. I'd rather have a double and have a aftermarket screen in there.
 
don't headunits come with their own surrounds anyway? surely its not an awkward double din head unit a lá Ford Focus is it?

Yeah mine is double din, 2 of my mates s3s are double din too. I thought all the facelift s3s were. Is there facias available for mine?
 
Lee, would you mind taking a pic of your dash for me? I have bought the whole centre section EXCLUDING the heating controls.

Would be of great help.

I see now, so the head unit fits in the console AND is awkward in its fitting. Gutting.

Any people with aftermarket Double Din's in their facelift S3's?

i have a standard double din at mo but looking into changing it.. May go back to single din

Cheers again chap. Seems like I will have to try! maybe worth taking photos of the process and putting it up as a step by step guide.

Now... to find a climate control er..... controller.

maybe try and contact the members who did it S
 
ive got an alpine double din in mine took out the standard symphony double din left existing cage in then put my alpine cage into that and attatched it to the existing cage
 
you dont need pictures mate i just took out the symphony using the 4 keys then slid my alpine double din cage into existing audi one wire up then voila
 
But the double din unit looks an awkward shape. Not a typical rectangular double din size.
 
my alpine cage slotted in there nicely admittadly you cant get a great hold in there but its enough to keep the hu secure
 
I want the HU to look as close to OEM as poss without having to deal with gaps and awkward spaces. Cheers though Matt, much appreciated.
 
thats the only trouble as yet there are no fascia adapters for the s3 i believe you can get an a4 one and trim that to fit
 
Does this also apply if you want to go from single din facelift tape unit to the double din symphony fitted on a lot if them?
