I am thinking of having a Remap on my 1.9 tdi A4 2003 100bhp.
Would having that many miles on the clock be a problem? The car as full service history ( long life ) Would the clutch/ turbo go a lot quicker?

Thanks inadvance.

id have the map done
but many will say dont
clutch and turbo could pop at that miles
oh and id get it off the long life serviceing

Ok thanks for the reply.... I might not bother then, doesn't sound worth the risk.
Last thing I need is to be folking out for new turbo etc.

Been thinking of knocking the long life service on the head, Will veg this changed over on the next service.

If your clutch is weak then this will highlight an issue, same with the turbo probably, but it's not going to destroy a perfectly good turbo any quicker.

go for it if you feel the clutch is ok ,,,clean the turbo before hand

I have a 55 mile round trip to work and back, takes me a min to get on the motorway from my house, then a min off the motorway to get to work, so the clutch as probaly not had a to harder life. Is there anyone on here who's had a remap with high milage?

wouldnt worry about it to much m8 if components are worn and going to fail they will do so if you have a map or dont... just because you will add extra bhp/torque you wont be abusing it any harder than you like to drive as before..... unless you get the red light racing bug

Thanks for the replies people. My car is also due a cambelt change (going to get this done in the next week or 2 ) but just for curiosity does remaping put any extra strain on the cambelt?

Again thanks.

No it won't strain the cambelt any more than normal.

I put my tuning box on at 128k - now approaching 160k and all's been fine.

*touches wood.

james do you have any info or links to the tunning box thanks mark

I have a DPT tuning box - Home » Diesel Power Tuning - Specialists in Diesel Tuning, Diesel Power and Diesel Performance using the DPT Tuning Box

Gives the power as a claimed 210bhp up from 180, and bumps the torque from 370 - 420NM. I've not had it tested to verify these claims, but I do know the car has a lot more go, and the torque curve is a lot smoother. Plus I get 2-3 more mpg.

New they're £400 or so, I wouldn't pay that myself as I'd prefer a model specific remap, but I picked this up for £100 secondhand, and it has the added benefit of being transferable.

I wouldnt think twice about not doing it because of 118k miles. I would get the belt changed though if its ready, far more important than a power upgrade and think of the cost if it breaks,

Mine is now on 119k miles and going really stong - no smoke, oil usage, turbo noise etc and had a new clutch at 100k miles so fingers crossed should have to worry about that. I will be going the remap route once i have the spare funds and will not think twice about doing so.

Go for it!

Well the cambelt and waterpump etc is getting changed tomorrow £400 ( a lot for peace of mind ) but like you said very very costly if it goes. Just been getting various quotes for insurance on the remap, my insures won't insure me with a remap,I've only been with them over 2 month so weighing up the costs of moving to someone else. It will cost me £130 more to go with AF,then I'll have a admistration fee etc to pay for cancelling current insurers? Plus the remap cost alot of expense... Decisions decisions.

I'm thinking of going down the remap route too in the near future when funds allow and my 2003 1.9 TDi 130 Quattro is currently on 101,000 miles.

Like others have said, I am not worried at all about the miles on the clock as everything seems to be working fine and there are no signs of obvious wear in the engine (touches wood :crying: )

What I will do though is get the turbo and inlet manifold cleaned and then get an EGR delete kit fitted before getting the remap done. The last thing I want is for the engine to soot up with the additional load put through it.

I'd do the same thing too if I was looking to fit a tuning box.

DTUK are a very good outfit and their website is well worth a look. I've used their products before and rate them very highly. Easy to purchase and very easy to install. The additional performance is great fun and there is little effect on fuel economy (don't believe the hype that they increase economy - its bull!), and of course once you're done with it you can flog it on eBay and get some money back.

The only downsides are that I have read that the tuning boxes tend to give a very large slug of torque low down in the rev range all in one go which can put the mechanicals under enormous strain. Remaps tend to produce a much smoother torque curve and more progressive power delivery which I would much prefer.

Anyway, I was surprised how punchy my 130 was as standard when I first got it and so I'm more than keen to see what it would be like with another 40 horses and roughly 55lb/ft more torque :w00t: - deffo do the EGR and turbo clean first though
