superkarls overhaul

May sound silly but did remember to fit the O ring with the new stat?? IIRC my new stat didnt come with the seal from Audi.

e2a, my old top mounts looked very much like yours after 108k miles, front end seems better now though but after reading this and Westles latest threads I might change my ball joints now.

yeh i made sure i got the seal with the thermostat. i found it a ****** to seat the seal properly, then seat the stat on that, and then get the housing to go over it while locating the bottom screw, alll without knocking it out of place.

its amazing such small and cheap components can make the differences people say. they're just so labour intensive. i cant wait to drive her properly, then begin working on the back end.

He' d do it mate lol, if you were local.
Id like to know the benefits of fitting a poly one tbh, it doesnt look like it does a great deal or has any movement in/on it. Only got it as it was cheap.

If anyone can tell me the benefits of this shout up.

quick update. wheels are being sprayed right this minute, heres a small preview.....

Karl I cant wait to see what this colour looks like along side the Minge Blue. I've always been put off refurbing my wheels in anything but standard silver as I thought it would look too dark.

thats my main concern, them being too dark, hopefully i chose well. wish i could photoshop then i couldve seen before i did it. im hoping it will look good, if not il sell them, or just strip them again and go plain old silver. but ya got to experiment a little.

I'm really unsure what to do with my wheels at the moment. They need a refurb and 2 new tyres but on the flipside I'm thinking of getting the S4 18" reps with tyres then refurb the 17" Avus myself and get some track rubber on them for the ring  Your wheels may sway me again.

if i had a choice between the ones ive got and 18' s4 wheels i dont think i could decide!! tough one that. having a spare track set is a good idea, just more money

This is the problem. The S4 18" Avus reps are rare as **** but will cost me £1225 with Michelin PS3s all round but they will be new and wont need refurbing. If I stick with the 17" Avus I'm looking at £700ish for a full refurb and 2 new PS3s.

If I get the 18"s I'll do a DIY refurb on the 17"s in red or something lairy for the track ;)

I'm waiting on some shares to come good so if I double my money in the next 2 weeks I think I'll treat myself to the 18s.

deffo look good, lairy and mean for the track. hows the late night spannering??

Without hijacking your thread too much the Late Night Mechanics has slowed down a bit this months. Mainly due to my turbo getting refurbed next week and a service due.

I have these late night jobs in the pipeline for the near future:

- Fit Boost guage
- Fit FMIC
- Fit adjustable tie bars
- And possibly a red wheel refurb ;)

Once the turbo has been done and I've got the FMIC on I'll be back to Bill's for a TIP and another go on the rollers. Should be a much better figure 2nd time around.

Haha. Pics will be up in 15 mins.
They aren't on the car however, they wer left to bake in the sun today, want them hard for tire fitment tomoro, but I have a couple of shots.
Tbh, they'l either look good and diferent, or just not lol. I'm daring to be different!

let the sausage, see the roll............

as you can see, slight tinge of blue in there, very very slight tinge of lilac too. hmmmm, how i imagined?... prob not, still a really great coulour, but will it suit the minge blue, who knows, have to wait till tomoro to find out! if it doesnt and they dont grow on me i have another colour in mind lol. why oh why didnt i just go silver.

thoughts please! :) thanks for your interest.

Look dog **** :). Haha.

Oni joking mate, look sound, think theyll suit the minge blue quite well.

Centre caps are painted the same colour, well, I actually painted them with what was supposed to be the same colour from shitfords (halfords) but its totally different somehow, so theyl be sprayed soon with what's left of the litre the wheels were done with. My next problem is finding Audi badges small enough to fit the caps, either that or how about black S badges, like the one making up S3, but black. Because I can't find Audi badges that are no longer than 90mm.

I had to make s set of cutom centre caps for my 17" avus alloys karl, ive took the big centre caps out that usualy covers the bolts etc, i had to buy a set of vw badges to fit the actual centre cap hole, then a set of audi centre caps, i then just mated the two together :).

Good choice on the colour of your wheels mate. Theyll look the dogs next to the blue hue of your car. Your bay looks nice and neat too!

If I can find some il do that, thing Is I want them all one colour, not the Audi badge on a black cap if you know what I mean.
What about the black S badge idea, is that too much??

Try printing out a black S and putting it up against the wheel to get an idea.

Personally as your name is Superkarl I think you should get this on all the wheels:

Westle I'm already getting that logo stitched onto my seats :) how awesome is that!

Holy sh*t brain wave! How about the superman logo in chrome for the centre caps! Yesssss! I'm on it, watch this space......

im happy, i think lol. really starting to grow on me now.

next job, bleed the brakes, they feel tuuurd, took it down the road and pedal goes to the floor until it stops.
im just on the hunt for a bleeding guide.....

Your car looks great Karl you should be able to bleed your brakes no problem!!!

thanks scott!
il take a better pic in the light to show the true metallic/pearl of the wheels.

as for the brakes, blead them twice, still goes straight to the floor. lloks like il have to do the master cylinder aswell.
just been reading up on bleeding issues and flipping the seals on the MC is common, hope ive not done that. need to get it on the road and enjoy it now, its been too long. Then il start overhauling all the rear amongst other jobs.

GAY.... Haha, only jokin chief, wheels look really nice and different, suit the car, you need the centre caps on though.

Yeah be carefull with the breaks and the MC, isnt there a guide on here for using vagcom to help bleed the brakes!

That's with spacers on yeh, I'm happy with the spacing, could still go more but that'd be too much spacer and need bigger bolts to be safe.
It's on standard shocks and springs, doesn't sit too high, which is showing there age and wear really.
The reg was cheap off the dvla with first transfer free westle. Was a present off my girlfriend, I love it.

Overall I'm well happy with how the car looks, and hopwfully drives. I still have a couple of things that need doing, and also a list of mods i want before I can leave it alone lol.

I know the feeling Karl, I'm closing in on having my car just how I want it.

The plate i'm looking at is £255 from DVLA, what's the first transfer free deal?

I think you could do with being a little bit lower mate. Since I dropped mine 30/25 I love its looks even more and it handles soo much better. You've done all the hard work by overhauling all the bushes, get some springs and shocks and it'll be even better.

reckon it needs to be dropped as well.

If you're using a pressure bleed kit and no more than 20psi then you really shouldn't flip the seals, and to be honest i think it's a bit of an old wives tale.

Start by bleeding the MC both nipples. then the NSR, OSR, NSF and finally OSF. Also do the Clutch, and providing you haven't run the tank dry in the process you shouldn't need to do the ABS. but it's worth doing IMHO for peace of mind, but you do need vagcom.
