Guys,

I'm at work until 11pm. Wife has phoned me up saying the car lost power and went into limp mode whilst driving. She pulled over and turned off the car to reset the limp mode.

Now when she starts the car, it revs straight away to 2k rpm then idles. Never did this before.
And it's always in limp mode now.

Until I can get my hands on it and plug in vcds, is this something someone has experienced before?

I'm suspecting fuel pump? Not sure why, just niggling away at me.

Car is 1.9 tdi, 1997, AFN engine.

Cheers.

its not a blown turbo is it? Revving by itself could be it running on its own oil...

It only does it once when starting it. It idles normally after that??

Ok, so managed to get a flyer from work. yay.

Got home and started the car. Started completely normally. No revving on its own.

Plugged in VCDS and got these:

P1570 - 35-00 -
00519 - Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71)

17-00 - Control Difference
01237 - Fuel Shut-Off Valve (N109)
04-00 - Mechanical Malfunction

Readiness: N/A

Ignore the first three. #2 and 3 are always there. Need to fix that limp mode when driving hard in 3rd or 4th!

So the last one - 01237 is a brand new one. I'm guessing that was causing the weird starting and permanent limp mode?

I've just been for a quick blast in it and all power is there. Pulls so much better than my Purple Shed!!

Anyone come across Fuel Shut off valve issue before? Is that inside the fuel pump?

Going to have a google now and see what comes up.

cheers.

Fuel shut of valve,is the shut of solinoid and is on the back of the pump with one cable going in to it,it's possible to take it out to the best of my knowledge

Older Diesel engines have a fuel solenoid to shut them off as there is no ignition system. Not really sure what purpose it serves on an electronic engine, as surely the ecu can just stop injecting fuel... but given these pumps are sort of electronic/mechanical hybrid things maybe it still serves some purpose
