Hi all,
I've had my 2009 1.4tfsi Sport for a few months and as nice as it is, it's just not powerful enough.

Taking insurance into account (I'm 23 and live in a high risk area), I'm thinking of selling up and getting a 1.8tfsi S Line. I'd like to stick with petrol as I don't do many miles and a lot of it is city driving.

What's everyone's thoughts? Anything to look out for on the 1.8tfsi problem wise? I know they can be remapped to ~200bhp which is also tempting.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Tempz, I had a 1.8TFSI (09reg) which I traded in January for my S3. It was a brilliant car but the tuning potential beyond a remap was very limited; a little more detail is here.

The 1.8 is known for burning oil which Audi don't want to acknowledge however some on this site have been successful in getting a new engine or partial payment towards. In the brief time (3 months) I owned mine Audi put it on the Usage Test but it was well within the limits. I'm not sure if it impacts certain years engines.

I'm significantly older than you and live in a low/med risk area however if I was you I'd look for a 2.0 - its 200hp out of the box so already on par with the 1.8 + remap. I appreciate your insurance will be sky-high however. I went with A-Plan a specialist broker which was a third of what the mainstream insurance companies were quoting me - could be worth a try?

Thanks for the info. Going to do some more digging into the oil issue, definitely a put off to be honest.

I'd love a 2.0 (and heck even an S3!) but insurance is a huge factor for me. I'll try A-Plan and some other brokers, they seem to be the best for individuals like me.

Just on the oil, i've had mine over years now (i'm also 23) and no oil burning issue, however mine does like to leak a little coolant over time! Its definitely cheaper on insurance than a 2.0 as ive got two mates, one with a 2010 2.0 TFSI S Line TT and the other with a Mk6 Golf GTI, both of theirs insurance is significantly higher, even with living in a low risk area.

You're going to loose a lot of money changing car so soon. Keep it for another couple of years until you're older and insurance is more affordable. I don't think you'll notice the extra power from a 1.8 Tsi, anyway, you would just want more after another couple of months, that's the way it goes i' m afraid. We all want more.

Will be selling my 59 plate 1.8tfsi black edition in the next two months if you are interested. Just waiting for my new 8v black edition to arrive.

Will certainly be interested, yes.

Cool
As I say, just waiting on my new car arriving. I will then have three A3s. Need to refurb the wheels on my 2012 car and move the private plate from the 59 plate to 12 plate which will then be the wifes and then will be in a position to sell the 59 plate.

Its just flown through its MOT, full Audi history, full engine rebuild by Audi to fix the oil consumption and is in pretty good nick for a 7/8 year old car with 50K on it. It has factory Bluetooth, RNS-e and interior light pack. Other than this it is a standard Black Edition with Zenons, LED headlights, tinted windows, FBMFSW, black headliner and BOSE which are over and above S Line spec.

I will let you know when its available before I advertise it
