Hi all, has anyone fitted both these products and what are your experiences? For me, after a revo 1+ upgrade I definitely feel the gearbox clunk. Do these help?

What @jdp1962 said ^. Believe we all have done it. The gear change feels a lot smoother after that. You get the occasional clunk in winters (not all the time and happens only on cold engine) but summers were without it.

The transmission billet definitely made a difference (in a good way) after APR Stg.1 and still doing its thing on Stg.2.

Bit pricey, I am sure someone on here purchased the gearbox insert from China for about £20.00 and works a treat!

@jdp1962 , I and a few others bought the one from eBay and it works just fine. Quality is and delivery was quick as well @Deckard - one week from China isn’t that bad at all!

I thought a bit pricy too but the pack covers the gearbox and the diff mounts too. The china one saves £60 on the 034 gearbox part, I don't know if you can get the diff mounts from china, but as a pack, and known quality I thought 034.

    Thanks!
Did you check to see if powerflex do them? Problem with 034 is you are paying extra for the import tax from the USA that Awesome add!

Not me. I still have no **** idea what you are all complaining about. My gearbox is smooth and I don't feel any shunt in the transmission (and I did on my B5 S4 so had a drivetrain stabiliser fitted). I must have taken the blue pill...

Ditto not done mine, I do question why would you fill a void that Audi design spent years researching...

They spent a few years researching the DSG box itself and didn’t get that quite right first time. :)

No, you haven’t taken a pill, blue or any other colour. Everyone perceives things differently.

I am hopefully with Mark Friday this week to get the discs/pads replaced. You are more than welcome to come and experience it yourself.

Hi Dippy, you may not have a clunk or slop on shifts but this is something that was there and now, with the 034 mounts, is not, so to those that have a slop, the 034 remains a thumbs up.

I'm interested in this as well - I've never felt this slop or shunt people refer to, although as I'm an idiot who throws money at things I bought the china void filling bracket thing but haven't fitted it yet. Can anyone describe what this slop or shunt is? The only thing I notice is that reverse can take a bit of time to engage (a second maybe), everything else feels normal to me.

Hi meph, 034 and powerflex describe it as a ‘slop’ or something equally ‘not firm’. After having the mounts fitted, gearbox and diff,I’d say it just tightens up the transmission, especially when driving in sport/manual.

If it was a manual I could imagine slop but finding it hard to imagine on an auto! I suppose because you don’t feel the slip directly what’s the effect would you say? Slower shifts?

In that case @meph137 you are the ideal person to answer the question! Get that insert fitted and you can let us know what improvements you notice...

@Dippy, as both @meph137 and you both have no shunt or slop, then you’re probably just as ideal as he is to get it fitted and report your findings. :)

Jeff, as I already stated I feel that my transmission is fine and doesn't need improvement. I'm not going to do the mod just because it is popular. Plus there are potential downsides:
    1) Another mod to declare to my insurer and I'd prefer to not do that in between renewal.
    2) Given the history of the DL501 I don't want to mess with it. Given my public comments on risk, you'll likely understand what I think about the matter.

I know, Dippy. My tongue was firmly in my cheek when wrote that, just as I’d imagined yours to have been when you were encouraging @meph137 to fit the insert. Sadly, there isn’t an emoji face for that. :)

Being the geek that I am, I have investigated this further. So the gearbox support 8K0399115 is connected to the cross member 8K0399263 by a "bonded rubber bush" 8K0399151. That "bush" is actually a metal frame which supports two separate rubber components. One is a large single lump like a traditional bush, whereas the other is more interesting. It is clearly not just a lump of rubber but has been carefully designed, and has a large piece of metal suspended within it. Although the "stop" 8K0399291 which the 034 mount replaces is bolted to the gearbox support, it doesn't look like this part is capable of physically supporting the gearbox, or at least no way as much as the main bush. To me it looks like it is some sort of damper. This then makes sense as to why the 034 mount will have an effect - it will increase the inertia.

Now I don't really know much about the design of damping, but I do know about its effect. Certainly with my S5's adjustable dampers, and the coilovers on my B5 S4, I know that having firmer shocks can increase the effects of shock and vibration from the road to the car. Audi could easily have made their metal insert bigger or heavier. They could have made their "stop" wider. So it looks to me that this part has been designed to have a specific level of damping. The 034 mount is clearly intended to change that level of damping. The benefit would seem to be to reduce movement of the gearbox, which those who have had the mod seem to appreciate. The question is at what cost?
