Hi everyone, first of all may i say what a great site

I have been lurking in the background for a while now trying to get as much information on the A4 1.8t sline avant as i can, i quite frankly i need some help.

For some reason i talked myself out of getting a Quattro version, probably because i have never had one, higher MPG insurance etc
but i need convincing as there seems to be a lot more Quattros for sale than just FWD versions.

I have found one i like 91.000 on the clock fsh for 5k, should i just go for it ?

Is there anything i extra i should look out for when i comes to Quattros, i am guessing that the rear diff oil change would be part of the service schedule

Sorry wrote this below, reading you were buying a quattro. I thought I would regret buying a FWD but I was surprised how well mine drove in the winter.....and we have a lot of snow and ice up here. Definite cost saving benefit buying a FWD but not as much fun or grip and you don't have the cache of the Q badge, but your running costs should be cheaper.

Look out for?....eh, yeagh.... a girlfriend who owns her own petrol station and tyre fitting depot! hahahaha seriously though, expect to budget for brakes,pads, and tyres ( 4 at a time ). Don;t think there is much MPG difference between FWD and Quattro petrol...not sure about diesel Full service history would be vital imho and check all recall work has been done. I am so indecisive about things like this,and i am getting a little impatient now, i have been car less for 3 weeks and it is driving me mad

I think that is why i am trying to convince myself to get a quattro because i am fed up of looking for a Fwd, I may just have to hold out, unless i can be convinced otherwise.

Nae bother.....look cool your jets....don't go rushing in feet first you will regret it ...trust me...I have been there Brother! Is it petrol or diesel you are looking for?

Well, i have looked at both petrol and diesel and decided on petrol due to my low annual mileage of only 5-7k a year

Good point coath1983.....if you are doing more than 15k miles a year imho then you should be considering a diesel, but prepared for possible nasty surpises at your friendly garage. Anything less than 10k and short journeys / weekend toy should be a petrol....but again it's all down to you at the end of the day.

Just as a slightly related note to this. The insurance for my 2.0TFSI is slightly more as it's FWD than if I had the Quattro, I have no idea why.

How strange, I nearly bought a 2.0TFSI a week or so ago just missed out, how do they compare to the 1.8t

the 2.0 is a better engine
but the 1.8t is very good aswell as long as its had reg oil changes
as with both lumps they nboth have there problems.

+1 with Bez there......luck of the draw sometimes. 1.8t prone to engine sludge pickup. 2.0t's prone to oil pump failures ( early engine models ), injector meltdown and a near thirst for oil like a two stroke motorcycle.. with some Forum member's cars!

I had a 2003 SEAT Leon Cupra which was the old 1.8T, 180bhp. It was good but the 2.0T is better. Just seems more powerful all round. I've had mine for nearly 3 years with no problems.
