had an 07 plate a6 avant in at our garage. bre engine, 130k on it. hex shaft had rounded off.
replaced all the balance shafts hex bit oil pump as a new unit from tps.
guy was clever and turned it off soon as the light came on!
engine/turbo seems to have survived. i took a big end and main...
these tfsi units do use oil. some worse than others. audi say a certain amount is normal. in my mind using more than a litre in 2000 miles isnt normal.
how much is yours using?
if the crankcase is under vacuum then the inlet is drawing in unmetered air from it. undoubtedly causing the idle problems you have.
if you totally blank off the plastic hose to the inlet manifold does it tickover any better?
lol.
bre engines, the balance shaft unit gear driven. blbs are chain.
when you fit the gear set on a blb you are effectivly making it like a bre. thats the idea!
the relavent threads on it.

sound familiar?
should be no more difficult to remove the oil cap when its ticking over to when the engines off. shouldnt be able to "feel" vacuum at the cap as the crankcase shouldnt be under vacuum!
removing the cap should unbalance the idle. but if it struggles to maintain tickover then its deffo faulty!
i mean im a professional mechanic, working in a garage. and ive seen this fault 5/6 times on different a4s b6s and b7s. changing the reservoirs fixed them.
think theyre 30/40 quid for the whole reservoir.
pad warning is yellow and looks like a circle with a pair of brake shoe linings inside it and just one beep.
brake fluid warning is red, the same symbol as above but with an exclamation mark in the middle and three beeps.
ive replaced maybe 5/6 reservoirs in the past for this exact fault on...
must be october, the seasonal phantom low brake fluid warning threads have started. lol.
i'll still go with what i said last year...... its the brake fluid reservoir with its integral sensor/float system. something to do with the tiny bits of water and silt in the reservoir coupled with cold...
oh dear. seen and fixed these twice now on the 2.0l fsi "awa" engines. your not guna like it, but both times all/some of the inlet vaves were bent head off.
do you have any pics of how it is now?
normally after market towbars are fitted with scotch locks that break the towbar wiring into the standard loom without cutting it to shreds etc. non of the standard loom wires are actually cut and bodged to the point you cant work out what was what.
i take it your not 18 years old then??
the standard airbox and element filter flow very well. the're not restrictive. sound is sound, just cus the intake or the exhaust is noisier doesnt mean the car is faster, usually the opposite imo.
save for a remap.
its like my mate with his mk4 golf...
ive changed 2 or 3 now. if memory serves 2 x 2.7 tdis and a 3.0. cant remember what mileages they were on.
i think the problem is again caused by the soot coming thru the egr system. the soot mixes with the oil in the inlet/manifolds and it makes itself into a kind of grinding paste around the...
also foam pipercross filters only filter out half housebrick sized particals anything smaller gets through.
having said that an old 1600 mk2 golf driver i had years ago, i ran without an airfilter at all cus the breather system kept soaking the airfilter with oil. so after 3 filters in 6...
lol, ok i'll post up something slightly more useful.
k+n's are lightly oiled. some people find the oil effects the airmass, some says its fine, others have problems. something to think about either way.
for me, to end up even maybe needing a new airmass because of fitting a k+n, i wouldnt...
