With the bonnet open, look on the left hand side, you will see the exhaust manifold,turbo and cat. Start the engine and see if there is any noise from that area, this will start to narrow down your search.

What's your reason behind ruling out 'wobble bolts'? In my opinion you will dramatically weaken the hub by adding an extra 5 holes, the more material you remove the more the structural integrity is compromised.
