Welcome :) Looks a bit of a bargain and just run in. If the the gearbox feels fine then I wouldnt worry about it and being the 1.6 cambelt shouldnt be too expensive cheaper still if you can do it yourself.

Thats why I was asking really as like you say its a relatively small engine in a big car. Remap will make a big difference I suspect.

I like the A6 always have, what does it go like with that engine ?

I know how you feel but better to get the right car than constantly searching for those extra toys that you can probably buy and retrofit anyway. Car sounds like a beauty looking forward to some pics.

The thing is though when you buy privately you would hope the owner would have the decency to tell you of any problems rather buying from a dealer where somebody has partexd their car due to impending big bills.

Welcome Lucy I bought my 1.8T last week and its just been in the garage for repairs although I bought it knowing most of the problems.I wont tell you what I spent but its perfect now. Best of luck with yours please update us with their findings.
