Does the car have a phone kit of any description? As you say, it sounds like the telemute is being activated? I would pull the headunit out and check the wiring/ make sure nothing is touching the telemute terminal.

5, 10, 15, 20..... Are the fuse ratings, '24' would be the fuse location not amp rating. There should be a fuse location 'map' on the back of the fuse box cover.

I have this same fault, and am about to pull my hair out over it. My advice is to be very careful before you start shelling out money on " fixing the fault" So far, I have been told it was the tires, then a buckled wheel, bent drive shaft, wheel bearing. All have been replaced and the fault...

Mine, a 2006 doesn't have a DPF - so I imagine the 2004 MY won't either?

The cover just pulls off, no tools required. Will try to find a pic. No, never had any slip.

Mine is on 128k on the standard clutch, and think is starting to get a little tired. I think the clutch release bearing is starting to fail... In traffic I can notice a slight 'rock' of the engine as I brake to come to a stop. Don't think I need to worry just yet though. You might try and use it...

I would imagine, if it has 'sunk' it would be a snapped/broken spring. Not the shock. Mines a quattro - will check it tomorrow and report back!
