2.0T sleeper project - options / would you do it?

I got back into an A3 2.0T late last year. The full background to my granddad spec 2007 Sportback SE with lots of options is here: https://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/im-back-in-a-high-spec-2007-a3-2-0t-put-on-a-brew.383980/ It was meant to be a stop-gap car, before I got around to...

    Rattling noise from rear suspension.

Not sure whether it's the same issue, but the rear stone shields (if still present) are often the culprit on 8P1/2 A3s. Either removing them or jamming a bit of wood / polystyrene / something else between the shield and lower arm can help.

    I'm back - in a high-spec 2007 A3 2.0T - put on a brew...

Hello from my hotel room! And - yes, you guessed correctly - I am 227 miles away from home courtesy of the whimsically-bought Audi. :) Despite doing relatively few miles overall in our vehicles, long business trips are part of my working life. Although these have been less frequent by car...

Thinking of buying a 2014 A3 3.2 Quattro, what should I look out for? And what should I pay

From memory, S-Line exterior and interior packs were available for the A3 8P before S-Line became a trim level. Some of these early cars have one or the other pack, too, rather than both.

Thinking of buying a 2014 A3 3.2 Quattro, what should I look out for? And what should I pay

These cars have probably bottomed out in terms of price, but the seller will be getting a lot more in a private sale than any trade-in. If the car goes on to give you trouble-free motoring, then £2,800 is a good price... although there is always an element of luck at this price. You will no...

    I'm back - in a high-spec 2007 A3 2.0T - put on a brew...

Thanks for all the comments. Well, I did say that this was going to be a story about my "no expense spared" approach to running an old(ish) car... And so, the car is at the garage overnight having the following done: - Charcoal canister and PCV replaced (hopefully resolving the Check Engine...

Long time no see! 7 years in fact! So, why not make amends with a mega post about my latest A3 8P?! For the last few years, I've been running a family van "Bus Blue" as our main wheels - a 2013 T5.1 Danbury camper conversion: But how did I end up in a 12-year-old Audi that smells of...

    A long goodbye...

Just had a supermarket home delivery - and the guy was complimenting the S3 and commiserating me on the move to a Volvo! I didn't get around to explaining the charms of a D5, but he had a point! :3sadwalk: My family and extended family have long had Volvos, so I do "get" them - although, as...

    A long goodbye...

The 2.4 D5 Volvo lump is not the same as the 2.4 JTD as used in Alfa Romeos, despite both being 5-cylinder and having the same displacement. Both sound lovely though...for a diesel.

    A long goodbye...

Well, after some time thinking about it (and 7 months after starting a new job with big business mileage) I have given in to the work lease car option. My S3 Sportback has been a great companion since the change of situation earlier this year. Although it's not every day that I travel by...

(not the) 2012 new shape s3

Doubt this was an 8V S3; probably an 8V S-Line.

    No S3....

The Pistonheads forums are fairly anti-S3 and anti-VAG in general - and I know because I was once one of them! My old Clio Williams would almost certainly top a popularity contest when put up against my S3 (and was no.5 in that Pistonheads Top 50), but there's no doubt in my mind as to which...

Hi Guys Am new to this( i want to know more about the s3)

I've not heard of an S-Tronic gearbox failing on an S3 - has anyone else? I don't think it was available as an option until 2009, so most S3 S-Tronics will still be covered by the 3-year (transferable) Audi warranty. Assuming I pass the 3-year mark (next June for mine), I will be either...

    Quattros talk to me

I had a 2006 2.0T quattro and now have a 2010 S3. The former car was a manual and running the Gen 2 Haldex, whereas I believe that the post-08 facelift cars (A3 and S3) run the Gen 4. In use, the Gen 4 is significantly superior. At the time, I bought the 2.0T quattro because it had the...

    DSG limiter action this morning..

I've never experienced this - the DSG software will always shift up at the redline, whether in manual or auto modes. Fractions of a second can feel like a long time when driving though, as those of us doing a full bore Launch Control take-off well know.

Hello, first post, potential S3 buyer...

At 40k miles, the DSG 'box and Haldex quattro system will both be due an oil change at around £200 each (main dealer prices). I have a 2010 Sportback and have kept a log of ownership on a thread - see my previous posts. You'll find a Sportback is smaller than the Octavia, but it's a decent...

    My 2010 S3 Sportback thread

I'm using Thule Aero bars, which I've had for about 3 years now. They are very good quality compared to other bars I've had and perfectly match my car's roof rails. I've been sitting on my hands a bit with mods, but have a list of stuff I want to do. I'm very busy and need a one-stop-shop...

    My 2010 S3 Sportback thread

Just a quick picture of the S3 fully loaded and ready for holidays. It's set up like this about 2-3 times a year and although there is no space to spare, it proves that you really don't need any more space with a family including 2 young kids. My work mileage has been higher recently and I'm...

    S3 caliper colour change

S3 brake calipers are black as standard - the front ones are branded "S3". Surely it's part of the appeal of an S3 that it's quite a discreet machine - even the RS calipers are black.

    Bolt on mods!

A remap is the obvious recommendation, using a handheld device like a Bluefin unit so that you can take it off as and when needed.
