    A6 1.9tdi loss off boost/power @ 70mph ish

MAF and sticking vnt mechanism are the main culprits.

    Upsolute + N146 intermittant

These kind of problems are a pain to track down. If you suspect the Upsolute software, do you have the original Hi/Lo plcc32's to swap back over for testing (i presume its socketed). Failing that, i would double check the IP timing, and the fuel & coolant temp sensors. Have you checked...

    Upsolute + N146 intermittant

The quantity adjuster fault code i posted was from running a 'tuning box' set too high. This was a software/engine management problem. If your fault code was identical, I would think that you need to get the tuner to look at it again. There are different codes for physical upper/lower...

    Upsolute + N146 intermittant

The fault code is not a problem, it is just the quantity adjuster complaining that it has reached its upper limit. The fueling at higher speeds may be a bit aggressive, which may cause the juddering.

    Upsolute + N146 intermittant

What bhp are you running? Are you using bigger nozzles? I would suspect that your quantity adjuster has reached its upper limit, and can not supply the requested fuel at high road speeds, it may be throwing a similar DTC: 01268 - Quantity Adjuster (N146) 35-10 - - -...

    Redex Diesel Fuel System Cleaner

Redex seems to impair performance while it is running through & smoke a little. I occasionally use Wynns injector cleaner which seems better. If you dont have any boost problems, and you are experiencing black smoke on your PD130, i would check for the main culprit, which is 'burning excess...

    black smoke!

By 2000rpm your turbo should have spooled up and be online. You would expect smoke if you put your foot down at lower rev's, but when you have boost, it should not be that apparent. Are you sure it has not been remapped?

    black smoke!

Has the car had incorrect oil, or too much oil in it? If it is driving well but just smokes too much it is unlikely to be a leak etc. You need to have any fault codes, and the reported/requested fuel/boost values read with vagcom etc. If your car has a PD engine it is possible that you...

    black smoke!

If it is not the injector cleaner burning, you have a major leak/pipe off, or boost control problem. Does the car still run ok? and has it been remapped? Can you hear the turbo spooling up ok?

What fuel economy do you get?

In my A4 with 110 VE engine i get an average 45mpg towing a car on a heavy twin axle tilt bed trailer (long journeys, including motorway) Average mpg is approx 49-52mpg Round town 45mpg I dont use the DIS to calculate mpg as it is a liar. The older direct injection engines do seem to...

    110 TDI Power Mod's

I have a pre-facelift A4 TDI SE 110 with AFN engine, and im after a bit more power. After lots of research i have decided to go for larger .216 T4 Eurovan injectors, with a VNT-17 and larger front mounted intercooler, with a remap to match. As i understand it the 130 VNT-17 will be easier...

    weird problem NOT FIRE-ING

By 'software' i mean some people seem to be of the opinion that as the ECU adapts to the running conditions of the car, and as various electrical connections/sensors slightly degrade over time, the car is adjusting something that is causing the 'unexpected feature' of slow starting. If you...

    Routes of tunning?

I have a similar engine and was also considering swapping my vnt-15 for the larger vnt-17 as fitted to the 130 and 150 bhp VAG engines, seems like all i need is a small adapter for the air pipe to bolt onto the turbo. I presume that i would have to alter the boost control system to use more...

    weird problem NOT FIRE-ING

It seems that your problem could be sensor or software related. If your car will not start straight away when you cycle the ignition and the engine is hot, it cant be a fuel/air leak. As its a PD the only thing that could trouble the timing is the crank/engine position sensor, but if the...

    weird problem NOT FIRE-ING

If the problem comes and goes it could be a dodgy glow plug relay. Most TDI's will hesitate when accelerating at very low revs and give a puff of unburnt fuel smoke which vanishes as boost comes on line. If it does this above 1700rpm you may have a slight leak on boost/control side or worn...

    weird problem NOT FIRE-ING

If you have had a recent timing belt change and you are getting a low mpg and slow starting problems it could be that your timing needs re-adjusting or injectors/pump re-calibrating. Otherwise if your battery and starter are all ok, it could be air in the fuel system. Is your new 'T' piece...

    what is it?

I think it closes one of the vents in the filler neck while the fuel cap is off, so that it does not fill/overfill with fuel whilst filling up.

    More A4 TDi (110) questions from a n00b :)

You can get an A4 TDI 110 to achieve 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, this would require the larger 'van' nozzles, a few other major mechanical changes, a 'little' weight reduction etc. But in the long run your car would be pumping out black smoke and only getting 20mpg, so it is not really an...

Disconnected EGR Pipe now Warning light

I never had any problems when i disconnected the pipe on my EGR. Have you made sure the hose from the 'n75' type valve is properly sealed? Is your EGR closing properly? You can VAG-COM the EGR to vastly reduce its operation, or stop it. I ended up reconnecting mine on my 'afn'...
