Changing from Variable interval oil services?

Thanks for the reply, would have replied sooner had I realised there had been a post, lol. Called into my local VW dealer the other day from where I get most of my service parts from (much cheaper than the Audi dealer up the road!!) and bought some Quantum Platinum oil (which has apparently now...

Changing from Variable interval oil services?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but the search function at the moment keeps throwing up a 'database error' whenever I try and use it! The family have just acquired a 2000 A6 2.5 TDi (160k miles) that has been maintained all its life on the AVS servicing system with the long-life oil...

    a4 tdi

On the top of the plastic cambelt cover housing there should also be a bar-coded sticker which lists the engine code and number.......... If its a '99 AFN the engine noise insulation cover should have a red letter 'i' on the TDi motif, although as the cover is so easy to remove it shouldn't be...

    Dragon Peformance tuning box..............

Here you go, nothing much to look at , but makes a big difference to the way it drives; the best £50 on Ebay I think I've ever spent!

    running on cooking oil

It's my understanding that 'older' generation diesel cars (ie indirect injection engines) like the Series 2 Audi 80 TD and Golfs, and others like the Peugeot 405 TD's are OK on vegetable oil or a diesel/oil mix, but for any direct-injection engine (ie TDi) the idea is a total no-no. There's...

VW Passat wont start after diesel filter

Totally agree, you need to ensure the new filter is completely full of diesel when you do the swap. This job used to be a doddle on my old 80 TDI (same filter is used as on the A4) as the system seemed to self-bleed but on the A4 it's horrid, one of those jobs I hate doing now to tell the...

    Dragon Peformance tuning box..............

After running a £50 German Ebay-sourced analogue tuning box on my 110bhp A4 for the last 2 years I was of the opinion that they are all the same really............ Well, I was wrong! Bought a bargainously cheap s/h digital Dragon Performance box on Ebay the other week and have had it on there...

    Most fuel efficient driving 'technique'

I don't think I ever the revs up to more than 3k unless I'm in a real hurry as there doesn't seem to be any point..... Around town I end up mostly staying in 4th as the car is quite high-geared and doesn't really like 5th at speeds below 35mph; there are so many speed cameras/camera vans around...

    Clogged inlet manifold?

I did this job recently as my car has just passed the 140k mark and I wasn't too sure what I'd find; car was going OK, just with all the tales of clogged manifolds thought it wouldn't do any harm to check............. Took a few hours going very slowly and found almost no crud at all, a tiny...

Chip or Plug in on 1.9 TDI 110BHP?

I fitted a £50 plug-in module from German Ebay to my 110bhp TDI and found it made quite a difference, with wheel spin in 1st and 2nd embarrassingly easy if being lead-footed. Mpg has gone down from about 48-49 to approx 45-46 since fitted but it makes car much more pleasant to drive IMHO.

Best type of MAF and UK suppliers?

Haven't got any info on where to get one for the V6 engine but I bought a Pierburg one for my 4 cyl TDI from a German Ebayer and car runs better (more flexible in higher gears at lower speeds) with the Pierburg MAF than it ever did with the original Bosch (and that Bosch one was only 6 months old).

Better running with different MAF sensor?

I don't go around on the whole doing 30 mph in 5th!!!! Just using that as an example of how much more tractable the car seems to be.... Before the sensor change there's no way it would have taken 5th at such a low speed, now there's no problem! Perhaps the sensor hadn't been changed by the...

Better running with different MAF sensor?

A few weeks ago I bought via Ebay a Pierburg MAF sensor for my A4 TDi 110 as I had been told by the previous owner of my car it had received a new MAF sensor but he had lost the invoice...... Worried that it might have been a cheapo one I bought the Pierburg one as it even came with a little...

What fuel economy do you get?

My A4 is older (its a '99 110 bhp and its also an Avant, so probably have a slight weight disadvantage too...) but got around 48-49 mpg when first acquired, this is overall consumption, mainly motorway speeds. After having fitted a diesel tuning module the economy worsened by about 2mpg, though...

'95 80 Avant TDI running too cold/light flashing?...

Bit of a long-shot this, are you sure the switch in the base of the expansion tank that says fluid is low etc (think thats where it is!) is working OK? Can't see how a tank could be faulty- and I bet it isn't cheap knowing Audi stealers! I'd get the expansion tank switch off and make sure that...

'95 80 Avant TDI running too cold/light flashing?...

[ QUOTE ] Also, is changing the thermo an easy job?! [/ QUOTE ] Yes fairly easy. Remove under-engine tray and drain off coolant from the drain plug on the radiator (skip this step if you'd rather have a shower in anti-freeze when you remove the thermostat cover ). The thermostat is hidden...

'95 80 Avant TDI running too cold/light flashing?...

As above, the coolant gauge should read bang on 90 degrees in normal running with correct coolant level as the thermostat on these engines is designed to open at about 87 degrees if memory serves me correctly..... I ran a '94 80 Avant TDi for a few years and when first acquired noticed that it...

    People thoughts on this product

When I was investigating buying a module for my A4 last October I looked at both Ebay UK and Ebay Germany. At the same time there were identical units for sale (same pics etc) from both German and British sellers (admittedly they were German-made units). The British prices seemed to be on...

Don't know about that particular unit tbh, but it seems a tad expensive. Paid £40 for mine on German Ebay, and thought that most of the cheaper units were much the same, ie they just squirt in extra fuel to the combustion cycle...? Quite a few of the units that crop up on Ebay UK are available...
