Correct part number for AFB injectors

Really not sure about the cause for the failure, as the engine never got rebuilt. I suspect bad spray pattern, but i could never confirm it.. regarding the power, you are right based on my experience i would have also preferred a lower power (250-260). It related a little to the injectors i was...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Hi Tom, I did this upgrade some what remotely with the help of Chris. the torque and power were significant, but i wasnt able to get to a shop to fine tune the setup. If i had been in Finland or UK, no issues, but here in Germany no one was interested to help. Chris arranged for some new maps...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Hi folks Back again! Since my last post, i decided not to put the performance bits back on, but drive a little longer in standard mode, and then i traded the car for something newer. :( Not having someone close to help set the car up was one of the main reasons not to re install. So nearly all...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Well i passed the January MOT (TUV over here) with the rebuilt motor, and may again take a walk on the wild side. Unfortunately after experiencing what these 2.5 TDIs can do with some more boost and a nice set of nozzles, its hard to leave it standard. Sure a newer car with the 3.0 TDI would...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Hi Chris, I figured you were overloaded, so went ahead with local replacement of the motor. I did change the map sensor back to standard. I agree that the spray pattern was probably to blame, so if i want to re install the injectors, i will have to get them checked out. I will be around home for...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Update.... Piston number 5 was stuffed. As I was running a little hot, I can only assume it was heat stress which cracked the piston. It was a real pity, as it was running like a dream, albeit with a little smoke and the drive train rumble if you didn't take care of the revs. After 4 months of...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Hi Chris, thanks again for weighing in. I will recheck the N75, and then the pipes on the weekend. The smoke from the filler cap is not oil smell but stringly of diesel. As i undrestand, this diesel can come from the injector before the cylinder, or from within the cylinder (hole or crack in...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

idle it is normal. When you open the oil filler cap, a mist of diesel comes out. The same mist also comes out from around the injector seals on the right bank (when the oil cap is closed). Could be melted tips.

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Well bullet not dodged. Was driving home, and got power loss and lots of smoke, has to get the "AA" guy and get the car shipped back to my garage. Originally at the road side, the AA though it was the turbo. My garage (doesn't really specialize in diesels) noted that when you open the oil filler...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

After dodging the bullet on the breaking exhaust headers, I went for a spirited drive to Switzerland. All good, power back, lots of fun to drive. However the Oil temp pushes to 120C on prolonged 200+ kmh stretches. How concerned do I need to be? I read that sustained temps will break down the...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

no problems to borrow my thread. Now that i have my boost and power back, i am just happy. Interesting to learn about the header pipes degrading with the increased temp. My EGT is nôrmally constant at 500. Peaks are higher, but seldom for long. I will stick headers on my list... greetings to all.

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Chris, tried the manual application of vacuum directly to the VNT (with vacuum pump). You can hear a difference in the exhaust tone. Not dramatic a difference ,but it is there. Perhaps its just the N75. Will order a replacement one at Audi....

Correct part number for AFB injectors

tried and failed to remove the turbo today. My impact driver, (bless its little heart) politely stripped the inside thread of one of the hex bolts. So this is now no-mans land for me now. I really cant rule out that metal pieces from the exhaust manifold haven't taken out the blades in the turbo...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

just took the down pipe off the turbo, and tried to move the exhaust spindle. The spindle is not easy to move. Though there is not significant play in the spindle - it will just not rotate easily. This is why the boost is so slow to build. So I'm thinking now that the bearing is rooted / on the...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

So an update.. Checked all clamps and hose connectors - all fine and tight, no sign of oil or anything. Disconnected the VNT actuator bar, and it was easily moved. Ran measurement block 11 on the vcds to check the movement, all seemed fine, but i did notice that during the cycle the actuator...

Correct part number for AFB injectors

Had the same thoughts Chris. Checked left side connectors - all good. Will have to take the bumper off to check the right side of the intercooler. I noted also that if you wait longer the boost eventually build, but it takes time. As i am running in a overfuel mode with thes race nozzles, i am...
