First thing I'd do with any 1.8t I bought would be to change the oil pick up.

All 1.8t's suffer with sludge in the breathers mate.

I'd jet the oil pick up changed and stick some fresh oil in. apparently the VVT is the first thing that is effected by oil pressure issues so could explain the ticking.

my Mrs did a similar thing in my old car. The only reason they paid out was becuase a 4x4 going the other way caused water to splash into the intake and blew the engine. Are you 100% sure they will pay out? Hope it works out for you, diesels and water do not mix well......

When I'm stuck in traffic for more then 30 secs I normally slip my car into neutral, my thought was to prevent clutch wear as I thought the car maybe fighting against my brakes. Am I right in thinking this? My car has the CVT multitronic box. cheers mike
