    Cleaning obsession

Shhhh :p And just to show that I once was part of the OCD cleaning detailing gang, I have CCTV videos of me regularly prepping, pre-washing, snow foaming, washing, claying, polishing, sealing, waxing etc. my S3 8P ;) I have a garage full of detailing products sat on the shelves :( Oh how the...

    Cleaning obsession

Yep agree. My S3 is underwhelming, disappointing and doesn't cut it for me. Which is why I perhaps can't care for washing etc. I washed my 8P S3 much more often than this one. So yes, it might be a A45, Golf R400, Focus RS next. And I might just love then enough to wash them.

    Cleaning obsession

Nope All I care about is how it drives and how it performs. If it doesn't do that, it's not a good car for me. All my cars get thoroughly cleaned before I sell them, and the dealer or buyer always remarks on how well it's been looked after :)

    Cleaning obsession

I tried keeping it clean once. Unfortunately it didn't make the S3 any better or any difference to being a drivers car ;)

    Cleaning obsession

It's just a car, a metal box. :) I spend my time driving it. Like white goods. I don't spend my time washing and polishing my microwave, I just use it. (Besides, it's a mass market A3, hardly a Ferrari ;) )

    Cleaning obsession

^ you are not alone. Mine has been washed once since Nov. It's only an A3, just mass produced metal ;) (and please don't even start to tell me about bird poo and etching)

Dealer clean or not to clean.

Swings and Roundabouts. During a normal PDI and Prep, if its damaged or scratched, there is no dispute that the dealer has to sort it - it was uncovered on their property If however you insist that they don't clean/inspect it, you drive it away, if you find any subsequent damage during your...

Driving in grit salt-how bad ?

I think a Jet Wash is a must, to get off all that dirt and grit, before you have any physical contact. Either your own, or, spray on pre-wash, then drive to Tesco* and use their jet wash. Then drive home and do a normal wash! ;) *other supermarkets are available

Citrus Pre Wash: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valeting-and-bulk/valet-pro-citrus-pre-wash/prod_728.html And yes, you need a specific snow foam lance and bottle that mates to your jet wash - nomal mains pressure won't cut it...

Driving in grit salt-how bad ?

Snow foam, followed by Jet Wash Some prefer a citrus pre-wash, but the salient point is that you do not touch the dirt with a mitt until you've done a touchless pre-wash (with snow foam or citrus pre-wash) - then got as much off as possible with a jet wash.

Cleaning help - white / silver stitching on S3 steering wheel

Re the baby wipes - if you can find fragrance free and moisturiser free that would be good. If it's particularly mucky, a watered down/weak solution of Oxi-Clean (other brands are available) or any other oxygenating bleach (different to chlorine bleach) - will lift the grime with a toothbrush.

Cleaning help - white / silver stitching on S3 steering wheel

Fragrance free baby wipes. Gentle rubbing will get the grime off. Then re-nourish the leather with the usual leather products.
