Thanks guys! I m familiar with vag having owned an s3 8l as well as a golf v gti. I m looking for a 5 door hatch and spent the weekend seeing and driving the a3 sb / v40cc / bmw1 + merc a. Bmw was ruled out due to space in the back, merc to being a bit expensive for what felt to me as inferior...

Oh... My mistake. Thanks all for the replies, but i wasn't referring to a "a3 hatcback or a sb" debate, but to rather an a3 vs the competition one... In other words why would you recommend me getting an a3 over other models from other brands. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks :)

What made you choose hatchback over sportback or the other way around?

I have the same request as you. Strange no one has posted anything yet. Seems this seat choice is not very popular which is a sad thing since they look great on the configuration. Hopefully someone will come through soon.

What is the diesel and petrol price in your area?

What made you chose the car you re driving over other types? I do not refer to brand or model, but to type of car ... Hatchback, sedan, suv, coupe.

I m driving around 20.000 km per year in mixed conditions. Price per lt in petrol is 1,70 euros , diesel at around 1,20 1,6 tdi is only 1500 euros more than the 1,4 tfsi. Price difference in fuel is very big but decent performance is also needed. 1.8 and 2.0 lt engines are not an option

Are you satisfied with your car performance wise or do you find it underpowered and feel that you sacrificed performance over fuel economy compared to the 1.4tfsi ? Thanks

Hi, yes I have but unfortunately due to financial and tax reasons I can not go for a 2.0 lt engine, neither for a 1.8 (regardless diesel or petrol), that is why I m focusing on the 1.6 + 1.4. Thanks
