Strange Splash On Paintwork & Windscreen

Every day is a school day. I honestly thought that clear coat could be both types but I just had to go and find out. This from the Audi 2012 environment mag called Encounter "With the exception of clear coat applications, all paint processes now employ water based paints that contain only a...

Strange Splash On Paintwork & Windscreen

What you are seeing is not actual damage to the paint, so it doesn't need an abrasive solution to sort it. This is definitely the chemicals from bird poo reacting with the water based paints that are used on cars now. The sun will have heat cycled the area of paint and the lacquer will react...

    Window rattle.

You need to cover all the door seal thats attached to the car and then on the door try to get the stuff on the rubber that looks like felt on the top seal. Basically it doesnt hurt to cover all the rubber seals. You may need to re-do occasionally.

    Click noise

Doesn't need to be ******... Here's something identical to the clamp I used Hosecock Clamp regular nickel plated zinc 0 to 2 3 dia tubing from Cole-Parmer United Kingdom The reason I used something like this is because you really don't want to damage the vacuum pipe.

    Click noise

The pipe is quite tough so I'm not sure about a zip tie. Will need to be a bit more substantial as the pipe really needs to be closed fully because you are trying to stop a vacuum getting to the actuator. Air/fuel doesn't travel down tube anyway so no problems. And yes the exhaust does sound...

    Clicking noise

Just clamp the vacuum tube leading to the actuator and the valve will stay in the open position, which is what you want. No fault codes will be flagged doing it this way, I've had mine this way for a year now.

Black paint and stonechips - i hate winter on British roads

The festool is a small hi carbide steel square block that has very finely toleranced edges, which are also very sharp. So if you get a blob of paint over the chip and it needs to be levelled to the surrounding paintwork you can use the tool to scrape the excess paint off. Paint needs to be dry...

Tyre of choice these days? any brand or type standing out?

Dont trust them with anything. Go to a good reputable tyre fitters and prior to getting the tyres fitted show them your wheels and the condition they are in and then politely tell them that they should be in the same condition after tyre fitting. Pointing out the ****** obvious i know but they...

Tyre of choice these days? any brand or type standing out?

totally agree. I had Continentals on mine from new but they were noisy and had poor grip in wet and greasy conditions. Used to feel the back squirm when accelerating out of corners. The PS3's have been brilliant this mild wet winter. Couldnt have asked for better tyres for the conditions. They...

    V Power Diesel?

Its all quite subjective regarding different fuels. Some people swear theres a difference others dont. I'm one of the latter but the difference is not really that much in performance rather in economy on a frequenly driven route.

    16000 glorious miles

Sorry to point this out but 18k is way too many miles before first oil change. yes i know its longlife but there are many people on these forums that feel 10k is the absolute max for their cars. Longlife regime is simply use of longlife (synthetic) oil and far too long between changes (but is...

    Condensation on inside windscreen

Aircon is not really designed to be on all the time but they are very reliable nowdays so keeping them on all the time shouldnt give too many longevity issues. In fact not using the aircon at all is more damaging on the unit because the aircon gas/fluid contains a lubricant for the compressor...

Black paint and stonechips - i hate winter on British roads

Just a46, m4 then a38 to filton. You're right about the amount of debris on the road its everywhere, wasnt this bad last year. Dont like driving the car in rain now as this just chucks the grit and gravel at you. i find myself taking the ring road more often now (as much as i hate it) because i...
