Quick update for you lovely people. I have fixed my radio/dis problem stripped the radio down not faults found in there traced the wiring back and found a small break in the wire. Repaired and heatshrinked it. Now works a treat!! Illumination, dis and turns on and off with ignition. Couldn't be...

The weirdest thing just happened. I went out to my car, to find the radio backlit (never since i've owned it has it ever lit up) even though the car was off and locked. Turned it on and backlight went off and not come back on. What on earth is going on with my car?!

It works otherwise yes although after an hour it turns itself off. It's as if the car isn't running. As far as I know it's standard to the car.
