Wouldn't I get other symptoms if this were the problem? The car tracks dead straight and there's no vibration at all through the wheel. Also, it doesn't just happen at (or approaching) full lock. I get the noise when I turn the wheel even a couple of degrees either way.

Have you checked the steering rack? I found these videos yesterday while rummaging through forums. Does yours sound like this?

I picked up an 8J TT RS at the weekend and it's got what sounds like the same issue. It only happens at very low speeds while turning the wheel (not necessarily full lock). I noticed it several times manoeuvring around a car park yesterday. It sounds like a ping pong ball rattling around.

Three weeks later... Took it out of the garage yesterday: clank, rattle, rattle, clank. It sounds like it's coming from the same front wheel as last time but that might just be because I'm listening from inside the car. Since I know what it is this time I think I'll take it straight to a tyre...

None of the above: it turned out to be two detached TPMS sensors rattling around inside the tyres. It had four new tyres fitted per-sale. Whichever muppet put them on didn't attach the sensors properly. :blink: (Countdown to the other two falling out starts now...)

Over the weekend I noticed a noise coming from the front axle/suspension area of my B7 RS4 Avant (which I only bought last week :sob: ). It sounds like the car's going over a plastic bottle or a metal can. Once you get over about 10 MPH the noise completely stops. Does this sound like failing...

No. It still hesitates on start-up unless I wait a second or two with the key at position 2 (until the dial needles have done their sweep). :) HPFP replaced. All sorted. :)

That's very interesting. Mine used to hesitate on ignition but I got it to stop by putting the key to position 2 and then letting the dials spin all the way round and back again, presumably giving the fuel pump time to prime. I wonder if replacing the HPFP will cure this too. I've noticed the...

I drove two Mk7 Rs (one DSG, one manual) before I bought my 8P RS3. After reading/watching all the reviews I was expecting to be really impressed. I wasn't. The soundtrack was rubbish, the performance felt very ordinary; the car just didn't feel special or exciting in any way.

IMO the 8P RS3 is a great car - fast, stealthy, practical - but I've always wanted a B7 RS4 and I think I might regret it if I don't own one, at least for a while. It looks like you can get a decent one for sub-£20k at the moment so it seems like a good time to change. Has anyone made this...
