    AEB water pump tension

Seems to be one step at a time putting this thing back together. New v-belt between the PAS and water pump seems to hang very loose off the two pulleys. It's a Dayco item from ECP and the measurements seem right, but surely it can't be supposed to be this loose... New waterpump installed...

    AEB camchain tensioner

Hi chaps.... I'm on the home straight of my cambelt change along with the oil cooler, the water pump, the radiator and everything that's ever been in contact with coolant. Only one hold-up....so far: I was fitting the new cambelt tensioner: Haynes doesn't give any torque values for the...

This Time I'm Doing It Properly. AEB Tuning Advice Please

Hello everybody. Firstly, please let me apologise for my loooong absence. I have been visiting every now and again, but I never had anything particularly interesting to say, and god knows I didn't have any advice worth giving anybody. It's been a busy couple of years, and I've come through them...

    Caliper piston retraction issue

I'm rubbish at cars. Mark and Aragorn offered me plenty of advice earlier about the pad-changing aspect of my current rear wheel bearing and disc change effort. But I'm still having difficulty. Firstly, I didn't realise that these calipers are "colette" type things where the piston is reset by...

    3921 miles A4, one week.

If anybody's interested I've posted the full write-up of my 2008 Trans-Europe B5 Blast over on my blog page. Probably the best week behind the wheel I'll ever have, and all in ye olde A4. http://www.roadworkuk.blogspot.com

    ABS Ring, and hello again!

Hi Chaps. Once again I return from a long absence, and once again I need Audi Help. I went through a brief phase of Alfa Romeo ownership, but I've got that out of my system for a while and am back in the old B5. However. I'm half way through a rear wheel bearing transplant, doing the discs and...

Long time no see, and CV joint.

Hi everyone, I've been away for a while, nice to see all the familiar names still B5ing and welcome smattering of new ones, too. Last time I was here I was trying to get to the bottom of a strange noise, which finally turned out to be the n/s outer CV joint, which surprised all my techie...

    What's that noise?

'Evening chaps. For a couple of weeks now my A4 has been issuing a strange noise. I've taken various people out to try and determine the cause, including our "trained techicians" but they drew a blank. I'll do my best to describe. It starts (abruptly) when you hit about 35mph and then...

    Burn all Haynes Manuals

Began work on the front n/s hub bearing at about midday today, within 5 minutes I realised I don't have a 14mm hex drive (needed for driveshaft bolts). Stopped work, went to Colchester to obtain said hex drive, returned home. 20 minutes later, needed an 18mm spanner (weird size) . Do I have...

    Merc wheels onto A4?

Hi Chaps. An opportunity might have just presented itself. Anybody know if '93-99 Merc C-Class wheels will go onto an A4?

    Scrappage wheels dilemma

The '95 2.6 which came in on scrappage had pretty much nothing I could harvest from it, drives superbly but cosmetically knackered. It does, however, have a set of wheels. My gut feeling is that I quite fancy them, but what do you guys reckon? They're 17" RS4 replica type thingies, they're all...

Compressor / Clutch interchangability between models

Hi Chaps, hope you're all well, sorry I don't get as much time on the forums these days. I have looked in the archive and can't seem to find the info I need all in one place, maybe you guys can help. There is a chance we might be getting a '95 A4 in on scrappage soon, and if it comes in I...

    Damn. Bent something

I've been dead careful in the snow, not careful enough, though. I "found" the kerb on my way home in ridiculous Essex snow last night, steering felt fine afterwards so I thought I had got away with it. However, negotiating my way to work this morning, above 45 mph theres a serious...

    No Brakes! Conversion time

Hi everyone, hope you had a happy Christmas. My brakes have become gradually more and more fade-prone, and after a somewhat dicey trip back home on the M25 have become hopeless. Real caliper on disc graunchy grindy stuff. I bought a set of Pagid pads, and was going to have a go at fitting them...

    Back in the A4

I knew I loved my car, but I've just been reminded why. Just returned from a road trip with my girlfriend; how does 2684 miles in 8 days in a '94 Peugeot 306 1.4 sound? It's a non power-steered one, heavy as hell to steer, and I'm astonished her left calf muscles aren't more developed with...

    Dipstick

Never, ever have I ever had a dipstick break on me. Until Yesterday. It was about quarter past five, I thought I'd just check my oil before the workshop locked down for the night, and the whole of the sleevey bit at the bottom of the yellow handle went all brittle and broke off, leaving half...

    Salesman of the year!

Hi Chaps, appreciate this is waaay off topic but I just thought it was so damn funny I'd show it you. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/P-REG-BMW-318-IS-MANUAL-V-RARE-M3-REPLICA-FROM-FACTORY_W0QQitemZ200376467361QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAutomobiles_UK?hash=item2ea75e3fa1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 I think he's...

    S3? Naah, ta.

We just took a very tidy 51 plate S3 in p/x against a diesel C Class. I have had a quick play, very fast, of course, but cramped and a very hard ride, so I'm not a convert. And I can't believe how much they seem to be worth... We took this in at £4k, with 112k on the clock. Nice, but not...

    AC Compressor compatibility

Similar to young Mr Aragorns thread in which he is comparing pre/post facelift Climate control units, what's the story regarding Air Con Compressors? Could, for example, a compressor from a '96 2.6 being broken locally, be slotted into my 1.8t, or are there specific units for each engine? And...

    Ditchfinders

The recent snap of damp (!) weather has highlighted the shittitude of my rear tyres, which are made by soimeone called Triangle. They were on the wheels when I got them, good tread depth, good condition. It is now that I discover that they are made from some sort of Granite or Flint, and in...
