I think you're right Paddy. I started the car when cold, set all the temp controls to HI and turned the fan on full. The engine warmed up (although not quite to 90C) and no more popping noise. I have the VCDS dongle on order now and once that arrives, I should be able to track exactly when the...
I pulled the engine out and put it back into my A3 about 6 months ago. At the time, I went over possible future failures and the water pump intake had some cracks (it had had a front impact) as something had struck it. So I bought a new one and replaced it. I have had a devil of a time sourcing...
Came out as I've bought the car with some front end damage. Body repairer said he needed engine out to get it all perfect so out it came.
Be doing oil/filter/DSG oil changes when I put it back in. While out, just spark plugs (done), new coolant pump (some damage on old one), new drive belt and...
Ha. Worked it out - its brake booster vacuum hose. On the newer vacuum pumps, the vacuum hose runs to the firewall and then sneaks into the brake booster. Removal was pretty simple, just pulling/wiggling it off the vacuum pump.
Looking at this curious hose on a 2011 A3 Quattro 2.0 TFSI that does a wiggle off the back of the fuel pump, thru some odd connectors and then into firewall. What is it? And more importantly, how would I remove it? :-)
Ha! On closer examination, the wires to that sensor are bundled in with the wiring loom coming off from the left hand front, but not actually together. So I've managed to extract the wiring loom bundle without needing to remove this sensor.
I've prepping a 2.0 TFSI for removal, and so disconnecting all the sensors to the engine. Most are fairly straightforward but there's a sensor that sits behind the oil filter base. I removed the oil filter but unplugging this sensor, it can't be removed because it hits the oil filter base. It...
@Nessy Yep, exactly right there. I can't imagine that Audi would have left exposed wires around somewhere so my guess is that when it got picked up after the accident, someone knowledgeable cut the wires. And then it was sitting pre-auction for a while. I'm uncertain whether there is a crash...
I'm a newbie to the site! I picked up a damaged 2011 A3 Quattro at auction a couple of months ago and finally got some garage space today to start on the 'fixup'. It has had a front impact but other than radiator damage, it seems to run ok - I can start engine and drive it for a minute or so. So...
