    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

About fifteen years ago VAG and Ford (which included Volvo at the time) were producing specs to effectively encrypt/pair major ECUs in a vehicle to each other, partly as an anti-theft measure but also to prevent mapping. Engine ECU, Transmission, instrument cluster, ABS/(Body control) and...

    Facelift Recall and gearbox Map

Having worked in automotive powertrain and with what we know about the failure mode of the gearbox, I suspect the additional software looks for an implausible hydraulic pressure (which would be a symptom of the bolts coming loose). I'd guess that a remap wouldn't be affected by this, or affect...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

When I worked in Powertrain I didn't go near the transmission end of things, but in essence implausible signals normally mean something such as a signal is out of plausible range (i.e. there's no possible way in normal circumstances that the signal could be *that* far out of tolerance) or there...

    Maps finally updated...on its own.

Depending on the age/chipset of your car/head unit, Google Earth doesn't work any more and you might not be able to use the Audi offered replacement. If that's relevant to you, there's some potentially relevant information and someone offering a fix (for a fee) here and here.

    Oem rims

If you want something mid-way between a dealer's prices and eBay, you could try someone like alloywheelsdirect.net. I got rim damage from a really bad pothole (full of water, so invisible) on a hotel driveway last year. Hotel insurers paid for a new rim which I got through alloywheelsdirect and...

    Edinburgh Indie for Cambelt change

Try AVW Autocentre in Gilmerton Road. They've done a few things for me since our car went out of warranty. Their rates were much more reasonable than that bunch in Sighthill whose name I really don't want to mention. You've got the #3, #8, #29 and #400 buses stopping next to them.

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

I think Start/Stop being enabled/disabled isn't relevant to the service campaign 34L4 update, it wouldn't make any difference as to whether there's a catastrophic gearbox failure in progress. I never received a service campaign letter and I'm the original owner, it was only when I booked the car...

Dash cam permanent live.. any issues?

As said above, most will shutdown when the supply voltage drops below a threshold. As for which fuses to use, take a look at this thread...

    Recall - issued 02/09/2022

It feels a bit more "snappy" on initial pull away from stationary and I think it hangs-on to first a bit longer, but to be honest I'm not really focussing on the engine speed enough to make a mental note of when it makes the first transition.

    Fuse query

If the "sound actuator" is the same thing that on VCDS reports on our S3 as: Address A9: Struct. Borne Sound (J869) Labels: 4H0-907-159.clb Part No SW: 8V0 907 159 A HW: 4H0 907 159 A Component: SAS-GEN 2 H07 0001 ASAM Dataset: EV_SoundActuaGen2AU64X 003010 ...then it...

It wasn't present in mine. I've used that as one of two feeds for my dashcams.

Mine is going in for a service, MOT and the gearbox update tomorrow. Hopefully the prevalence of those getting warnings is low. I've only done ~20k miles!

    Dashcams and fuses..

Obviously the crimps are different for the two sizes of blade fuse in the fuse box. For the standard ATO size fuses used in F11 and F48 we worked out that what was needed were the ones described here: https://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/1673315-herthbuss-elparts-crimp-connector (there are a few...

    Dashcams and fuses..

I used F11 and F48. I can't remember which is permanent Vbatt and which is switched on the ignition, but they're the two I used. The two purple 3A fuses supply my dashcam. The only problem using them is that only the battery-side terminals are present by default. I should give a shout-out to...

Facelift S3 rear Haldex / Diff strip down video

As an engineer (albeit not a mech eng) I love stuff like that. With the amount of crud that came out of that motor, I wonder if that was the problem rather than wear in the clutch pack.

Part number for fusebox repair wire for ATO fuse connectors?

I've recently fitted a Blackvue dashcam and at the moment I'm powering it via two add-a-fuse kits into F12 (battery) and F40 (switched battery). They work OK, but it's not exactly elegant and I don't like the risk of losing one of the existing circuits if the things vibrate loose. I'd like to...

a3 8v Fault - Car still runs when key is removed?

That's a serious safety fault. Being a modern diesel, the key/barrel wouldn't normally have a direct ability to cease injections, the ECU would do that. There would be two independent circuits from the barrel. I can't think of a single fault condition that should be able to cause this, there...

    I may be mad!

You need to head East occasionally! Aside from more snow earlier this week, the temperature has been in double figures a few times. It's 11 degrees in Edinburgh today... ... albeit pi**ing with rain.
