    A3 8P Manual Sportback 2.0 TDI - Cannot select 1st Gear?

Sounds like a gear linkage either loose or worn possibly. Or at the worst end of the scale, the 1st gear synchromesh is dead. It's an easily fixed problem but expensive to do, requires gearbox out and sent off. Any crunching or grinding noises at any point when selecting gears?

Wire Diagram Trunk Lid/Steering Wheel Airbag A3 8P1

Boot problem sounds like the microswitch. Remove the plastic trim on the boot and have a look around the release handle area, same trouble on mine turned out to be a loose connection.

Looking for exhaust inspiration - TDI 140

Morning all, I'm looking for a bit of inspiration for the exhaust on a 2005 140 TDI, it's got the standard downturned twin tips on it but I want something looking a bit neater and cleaner. Interested to see what others have done in this area. I've got no interest or budget for changing the...

    Short pressed plates

I was under the impression that pressed plates weren't legal at all in the UK unless it's an old enough car. That's some good knowledge you inferred onto me leshkin!

    2004 2.0tdi A3 fuse diagram

Check in the handbook or service book, should be a 'map' telling you is what. Possibly even a list on the rear of the fusebox cover panel.

    Possible dash problem beginning?

Hi all, noticed a fault on the dash today, wondering if it could be the early signs of something troublesome happening, or if anyone has had this before. Parked up after work last night, around 1am, and went out again around midday today. so the car had sat for roughly 11 or so hours. In that...

    ESP + ABS lights on

ABS/speed sensor would be first choice, looking at around £40/£50 for a genuine item, otherwise non OEM parts can be found for around £15/£20 online. Sounds like it could be perished and be be splitting into two pieces, starting to throw up the fault.

Airbag warning light - what have I done?

Sounds like it's probably something to do with the seats moving, check under the flap for a loose or trapped pre-tensioner wire or something, unless you've knowingly unplugged anything, it's the most likely cause.

    ABS sensor issue

Does the fault occur at a certain speed, e.g 60 or above? Maybe try a known working sensor as stated above, then you can rule it out if the fault stays on the same side.

    MOT failed - CV joints

Sounds too expensive, by far. I used ECP for parts, I think it cost me about £30-£40 for 2 outer and 1 inner CV boot kits, had the promo code at the time too. The outer joint has to come off either way, so might as well do inners too if they're the same age and general condition as outers. Say a...

    Cv joint

Matt, you might be thinking of a ball joint splitter there. I had to do CV boots for MOT recently, I found the best way to remove the joint, was to remove the driveshaft from the car and set it up in a vice to work on. It will probably require quite some force to remove the joint, a 'tap' as it...

    Climate control

Had it on VCDS? Sounds like either the control panel is faulty, or there's a motor gone on one of the directional flaps.

    Abs/traction control fault

I'd say it''l be on of the three on the left side, but check them all, only takes a few minutes to unbolt and look. Disconnect the battery first though.

    Abs/traction control fault

Check if there's a strip fuse for the ABS on the front of the engine bay fuse box, inspect it closely. Common but relatively unkown problem on other VAG range models, so could be present on an A3, they develop a hairline crack across the middle, can throw up multiple ABS fault codes.

    Soldering smell help please

You say you noticed it from the engine bay, was this whilst standing in front of the car with the bonnet up, or coming through the vents whilst sat inside the car? Any warning lights coming up on the dash? Power steering would probably throw up a yellow or red steering wheel icon. When I first...

    Instrument pod swap

Hi all, just wondering if it's possible to have a white display facelift style dash pod in an earlier (2005) car. I presume it will fit no problems and need coding to the new vehicle, but is it a straight swap or is there work needed to the electronics or anything like that?

Rear side of car has collapsed?

Seconded, looks like a broken spring. Have a check to make sure it hasn't started to damage the tyre.

Nice touch, looks a lot neater, I like the simple mods like this that make a difference. Do you have the part numbers available?

    DSG Query

Same here. The DSG system is brilliant whilst moving at speed, but it's jerky at low speeds, such as parking, it's just a thing we have to live with unfortunately. I'm not sure if newer models are any different, maybe they've refined it these days.

    Rogue wiring, identification help needed...

I put them on, just to keep it from contacting anywhere it shouldn't or shorting out. Originally it had a push fit connector, but it was broken so I took it off and reonected using bullets.
