When you go that far why not re-hone the cilinders and put new rod bearing and piston rings on it ?

I had the same problem 1 year ago . Car running on 3 cilinders on start up and after a few seconds the 4th jumped in , also needed to refill the coolant fluid every 4 days ! I bought myself a coolant leak stop aditive and car is running without any problem since , so i'm guessing headgasket...

i'm not actually affraid for the paint but affraid for the underside of the car ! Car gets washed and waxed every week when driving it ! I'm thinking to do a full restoration of the underside next year and get it as good as new :)

Are you guys still using the s3 in the winter period in the snow and salt ? Just gave mine a clean and polish and is ready for storage this winter , on the other hand car would be fun in the snow , just affraigt for the salt this winter .
