You have to zoom in but you can see the rubber has a tear in and the bottom has a crack in. If you go on ebay and look at used subframes they mostly have broken bushes, you might be able to see the damage better on them.
I could see the tear in the rubber part of the mount. I've got a pic somewhere..
I also had a knock when driving over a certain type of bump when braking. And it felt like it was under the accelerator.
It just didn't feel right. As I tightened it it got easier and I worried about it snapping so I backed it out.
I think I must have had my torque wrench set wrong or had a faulty bolt. I put the old ones back in temporarily till new ones arrived.
Attached is a picture of the thread you can...
NiceBloke. I had the same. I brought new bolts and one of them started to get easier, I took it out and could see the thread had stretched so I put in one of the old bolts as a tempoary measure.
I have the issue where my joirney to work used to be pretty much like highway driving, but now there is so much traffic on the roads I spends ages sitting in queues.
My car seems to drink more fuel than I'd like in traffic, I suspect I might need to look at injetors or DPF next. Perhaps even...
B5, I think you put a link in somewhere listing the injectors released for the 3.0 engines. I wanted to try and find a set of the latest released injectors over the next few months to make that another job ticked off my list. Was the list done by yourself?
Hi there I'm in Cambs, sorry to hear about your fault. There is a garage in st Neots which quoted me 1400 all in for cam chain replacement. For the level of work it seems fair given the cost of a cam chain kit. I should be able to get the details if you need it if you think it's that.
I have the mounts done now, two had cracked which were causing my issues. The car feels much sharper to drive than before for steering / breaking and it has got rid of the vibration when driving / noise over bumps.
If anyone is interested I used Strongflex subframe mounts, they cost £103.50...
I've found a company who do a polybush which should make the replacement of the actual bush easier, did you do it yourself B5? Any tips of maintianing the subframe alignment?
I've got a crack I'm my front axle drivers side rear subframe mount, it's causing vibration at 70 - 90 and a knock at low speed when braking over a bump.
I've done the rest of the suspension myself, has anyone else tackled this themselves or will this be a job too far without a pit, I should...
I'm 57 plate, looking at the guidlines my car is exactly on the bottom threshold of the band L. If they only brought it down by 1gram per kilometer it would have been £225 cheaper a year
Gees, thats really bad, I can't really say I noticed any noises coming from there, did you? Those rear arch liners are useless, they trap all the crap you want to get rid off.
Hi all
after a long days work on my car I thought it was worth sharing how bad my rear bumpstops and top mounts were, I knew they were bad hence the work but I don't think I appreciated how bad until I got them off and they started to crumble.
