Apologies for dragging up an old post, but did you ever get this resolved and if so, how? As my car (A3 '99 AKL) is doing exactly the same thing (i.e. starts fine but cuts out after 2 secs, no lights on dash except battery and parking sesnor (but fuel gauge doesn't flicker etc), same fault code...
