    2.5 v6 Diesel engine fault

Used to have one, on a 2001 plate. If it’s smoking, then run a can of Forte diesel conditioner straight into the fuel filter and drive it hard. Replace the filter afterwards. I know some of the later cars had camshaft issues, but regular oil changes help. Check the return lines on the injectors...

Hibiscus Red TQS - New Car, New Project, cars been here before though.

The lower door rubber trim hides all manner of sins. Replaced them on my old B5 Amtrak. Once they corrode inside they warp. Good opportunity to check the door for rust, and give it a good detail before refitting. The little Philips grub screw tends to seize too.

    Write Off?

Yes, looks like a repair job. New rear door, tig-weld sill to pull out. Front door can probably be saved too. Blend in paint.

    Leaking like a sieve...

Over the years the Philips screws which are integral in the trim get stripped. Think there are around 6 in total that need to be turned clockwise so the plastic foot engages under the metal gutter below the windscreen. That should pull the plastic trim closer to the windscreen and the rubber...

    My new toy.

Nice. Get some brushed aluminium roof rails on it. Power wise, stay with what you've got. If you're keen to spend cash, then renew genuine shocks and suspension (Meyle HD) otherwise enjoy.

Desperately trying to find rear coil springs

Out of interest, what coloured dot sequence is on your rear spring? Only reason I mention this - is I used to have a 2001 2.5 TDI Quattro Sport Avant which I sold last year, but I still have a genuine Audi rear spring (used but in serviceable condition) in the garage. You're welcome to it if you...

    A4 B5 1.8tqs rear brake calipers

Possible to rebuild if money is tight, but only if piston isn't corroded.

hand brake tight to pull on

Siezed cable, or more likely the handbrake mechanism at the caliper.

    TQS rear caliper suppliers?

Think that's bad... try changing the fuel-filter on an A2 TDI. The technical boffins in Bavaria decided to put it under the car. Touch the heat shield that covers it and it simply turns to dust. Oh and you need a child's hands to access the space. One good thing is when you do disconnect the...

    TQS rear caliper suppliers?

Possible to overhaul the rear calipers using Bigg Red rebuild kit. Transformed the rear handbrake and no more sticking. Details here: During the winter or very wet days - I used to leave the car in gear rather than...

    Suspension Arms

Lemforder or Meyle HD. You don't want to do this job twice given the labour. Sometimes worth renewing the whole lot (upper and lower control arms, ARB links and tie rods). Just my opinion.

Don't wish to disagree but ca-canny as we say north of the border. Yes the 1.8T is infinitely tweakable, but a decent 2.5 TDI V6 will run and run. 150bhp on tap, whenever you want it, a pleasure to own and that growl when you plant your right foot is addictive. I owned a late plate 2001 V6...

99 2.8 V6 Quattro Resurrection with future V8 swap planned

Great thread. What's the suspension like? At 180k miles the original dampers will be tired. If you're replacing the arms, worth dropping the lot and fitting Meyle HD. Back to the brakes, I've got a thread on here somewhere about the rear caliper, as the handbrake mechanism siezes and can...

    Heading to A4 Allroad section

Sad to see my B5 go Paul, but technology moves on. It needs a timing belt done later this year. Difficult to justify the expense of doing that, and then keeping it for another couple of years. I'm asking £1,500, only because there's hardly an original part on it. I was also looking at some of...

    Heading to A4 Allroad section

Just a note to say thank you for all the advice and support I've received on the Audi Sport B5 section. Unfortunately after 10 years, my B5 2.5 TDI Quattro Avant is hopefully going to a new owner. I'll post a link in the for sale section. I've bought an A4 Allroad Quattro 2.0 TDI with xenon...

    Your car smells, she said..

Bleed'n hell. Check the state of the cabin filter. Is it original! Get a magic-tree in there sharpish.

    A4 V6 Wagon project

Interesting project. Wings look rust free and do I spot a sunroof. Is it electric? Keep the pictures coming.

    A long drive home.

Great story. Sounds Iike an epic trip. Makes you want to keep the B5 whatever life throws at you.
