    Sorry - Not much help, but mine was changed by Audi with a former owner, so it is a problem and can be done. I have since got into the joint with Silicone Lube sprayed through a straw to keep it quiet and in good condition. (keeping the pedals covered with a cloth).

    2010 Audi S4 B8 Thermostat fault

    That sturdy piece of metal is to protect the High-Pressure Fuel Pump in the event of an accident I believe, it's in a rather vunerable place. Glad you got the job done and saved some brass!
