Argh I sold it. I decided to keep the E500 for a few more months so the Audi had to go.
Still unsure whether I did the right thing, time will tell... but I'll still be lurking as I suspect I'll be getting another Audi soon enough.
Replaced two of the three vacuum hoses on the wastegate and and N75 valve as the blue silicone ones I fitted last year I think were two small an internal diameter.
This time I bought 6ft with a larger internal diameter of 4mm and 6mm external which are much more robust and will not collapse...
My scanner showed an underboost fault, so I tweaked the wastegate, which helped massively. I then tweaked it a bit shorter again and then finally once again Thursday evening. I can do this on mine in about 10 mins now, especially since swapping out the wastegate last year, I think it was. But...
Did another oil and filter change over the weekend as it was starting to get more rattly at the top end.
It helped but I do know that I need to do the cam chain overhaul with adjuster as it now has over 164k on the clock now.
A cheap ghetto check with the top mounts is to spray WD40 on them and give it an hour or so to soak in.
That could reduce the noise enough for you to know for sure it's them as if you're going to replace the top mounts, you may as well look at replacing your shocks too, depending on when they...
Nope, no noise but I did notice that there was too much play in the rubber bush in the lower control arms, so another job to be done at some point.
When I've replaced control arms on my previous A3 and various BMWs the key is to tighten and torque them up with the car on the ground, or on the...
Finally got round to replacing the front drop links and whilst there I replaced the anti roll bar bushes too.
All fairly straightforward and I didn't bother taking any pictures as it really is a case of jacking up the front totally of the ground so no weight on the front wheels, undo the two...
That's very useful @Matt275 as I have been thinking the ride has got firmer and your post could be the reason as to why.
I'll adjust them tomorrow and report back, thank you.
Is it sad of me when I state the colour of them is better than staid black? I mean, we're talking the colour of a driveshaft for pete's sake.
Nooooooo........... I think I got lucky with my eBay one.
I'm back in the Audi after dabbling with an E500 for the past few months.
A couple of jobs done in the last couple of weeks now it nice and warm since these are all done outside the garage on the concrete.
First one was to finally fit the final brake hose to the drivers side as I used a bit of...
More joy...NOT. Well partly.
I managed to remove the shock but am still struggling to remove one of the upper arms holding the shock in place. I think I'm going to use the angle grinder to slice the into the offending arm which won't come out. Worse case scenario, I just buy another hub...
After bleeding the rears I still wasn't happy with feel of the brakes and was about to order some rear hoses when I realised I ordered a set months ago which surprisingly I managed to find. Got them replaced yesterday with careful use of the blowtorch to loosen the rusty nuts before using too...
More joy today as that lower arm on the drivers side that gave me so much grief removing, the passenger side arm came out sooo much more easily.
I took my time, no heat and no balljoint splitter needed, just two good whacks with the same hammer I used unsuccessfully on the drivers side and it...
Soooo, I took the car to a friendly mechanic at the garage who said he'd charge me £20 to crack the balljoint.
3 hours and £90 later it was done and because it came out with the 'sleeve' the mechanic said he wouldn't be able to out it back as it is and would need to put the new one in.
This...
And another no joy evening trying to remove the balljoint from the hub.
The tools I got from Amazon didn't work and are being returned.
The one on the left, the removable 'hinge' in the middle started to bow and now has a slightly curve.
The one on the right the bolt seized when trying to turn...
