So – I have the diagnosis. Over fueling from injectors on cylinders 3 and 4. The injectors themselves had come loose and that what was causing the knocking / clacking noise. So – it needs 2 new injectors along with a new battery. High pressure fuel pump is fine.
I though this did not sound too...
Sounds nasty – and am hoping less catastrophic in my case. Despite the ticking noise car ran OK – engine did not cut out, just could not be restarted after ‘drive system fault’ appeared.
Keeping fingers crossed it is not the worst-case scenario…….
HI All,
Background was a loud ticking / clacking noise from the engine bay – frequency increases with RPM, but car still drove OK. After a few more miles of driving, car gave a ‘drive system fault’ with reduced power, it was now not possible to re-start the car. Fault code P0087 – Fuel Rail /...
Hi, and thanks for the suggestion – I have swapped tyres – makes no difference and whilst the tyres do make on certain road surfaces, this is a little different.
It is a high pitched (sometime almost imperceptible) whine was speed passes 60 mph. I can modulate it on and off by tiny movements...
Thanks for the advice - I was wondering if it could be wheel bearing related. However - if wheel bearing related - would the noise not continue after backing off the throttle? In my case the whine disappears when back off the throttle (and is only audible between 65 - 75 mph).
Hi All,
I think I may have this noise for a while – but maybe starting to be aware of it more. It is best described as a feint hight pitched whine from the front end when cruising at a constant speed 60 – 70 mph) with a very small throttle opening. Coming off the throttle the noise goes away...
Thanks – it is a strange one. Relatively even wear / car tracks straight – but rears wearing faster. I do sometimes transport heavy SCUBA gear in the boot – but would be very surprised it this would be the cause.
Hi all – I had a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 s’s fitted (245/35/19) around 8.5k miles back. I have just checked the tread depth and find the fronts have about 5.5 – 5.8mm remaining and the rears have 4.3 to 5mm remaining. This is exactly the opposite of what I would expect in a FWD car.
Wear...
All – and thanks for your replies.
The work has been assigned to an Audi approved body shop - the estimator said that given the crease / distortion of the panel, they are quoting for a new quarter panel section. If I were paying myself I would not go down this route – but given 3rd party...
Hi All,
Unfortunately, someone reversed into the side of my car whilst it was parked – resulting in this damage to the quarter panel along with some minor damage to the bumper. They left their details so this will all go via the insurance route,
Interested in any views as to how effectively...
Hi All – sorry to resurrect such an old thread – but worth mentioning that I have had a recurrence of the water pump coolant leak (some 2 years / 50k plus miles later) with the car now being out of warranty. This leaking coolant also contaminated the timing belt, meaning that needed to be...
I have 19" wheels (245/35/19 along with adaptive suspension) and really wish I had the 17” or 18” wheels instead. The ride is just too firm and unforgiving – for me at any rate! It is a company car which I may chose to buy when the lease ends next January – if I do this I will be looking to...
I have had this a few times in the past - and it takes a reset of the Navigation MMI to put it back - process described here -
I guess a bug in the software.
New bumper and new wing….. but there are a large number of smaller components that need to be replaced (matrix lights seem to be OK though and are not included in the estimate). Also includes ADAS recalibration etc…
It is a long shopping list of parts – and quickly adds up – here is the parts...
Hi all – and hope everyone is keeping well.
It has been a sad few days – not because of damage to my A4 – but simply that I cannot bear to think of an animal suffering. Amazingly the deer ran away – and I can only hope it is recovering or it dies quickly.
So – this is the result of a deer...
Hi All,
I stupidly manage to catch one of my rear tyres when driving up the ramp onto the upper deck of the Eurotunnel train. There is a sharp kerb at the top of the ramp and clearly I was not bang in the centre.
This is the result, it does not look too bad and I cannot see any of the tyre...
I had the coolant leak issue (40 TDI engine) – I think it was the water pump which was replaced under warranty. It was a very slow leak and therefore engine never overheated (topped up as soon as the low warning came on).
I do notice, however, that from time to time the fan runs for quite a...
