    Bye Bye S3

That’s a relief, I honestly thought it was just me who read his stuff with a thick Scottish accent. I’ve got something that’s a mix of the Proclaimers, Blackadders mad cousin McAdder and Rab C Nesbit... As for the car? If you like it, then balls to everyone else’s opinion. But naturally, you...

    Bye Bye S3

What he said (I think), only with an English accent...

    Hmm. Good point.

    Facelift s3 gpf filter

Long time since I looked into that one. Lots of cars have more than one cat. A couple of my old cars had three, two of which lived in the down pipes and were removed. On the first of these cars, which was 20 years ago so it was Euro 2 or 3? the downpipe cats were there to certify the car for...

    Facelift s3 gpf filter

Have to agree. For a little bit of extra noise, it’s a disproportionate amount of expense, a lot of work, and when you take into account having to reflash ECU’s, destroy warranties, and render insurance policies null and void, a fair amount of risk. A car that’s supposed to have an OPF isn’t...

    Audi S3 (2015 6 speed) APR Remap

I’d love to agree with you, but that would mean my being surprised they spend the euros on a bit of plastic here where the buyer can’t see it, but didn’t spend anything on an equivalent bit of plastic in the front grill to protect the air conditioning condenser. Despite our love for cars we...

Thoughts - 4D Plate, need help

    5. It’s indervidjyooal, innit... Which, to be honest is fair enough... if you like it, knock yourself out. It’s only a number plate after all, not some safety critical part of the car or it’s engineering. Same goes for any other customisations you make. I may not like them but I’ll absolutely...

Thoughts - 4D Plate, need help

Same as normal plate, but the letters are individually laser cut out of 5 or 6mm thick black plastic and stuck on the yellow background.

Thoughts - 4D Plate, need help

I prefer my plates plain, and not memorable... yet when I did have a private plate I had plates from fourdot that were lovely. Taken in isolation I rather like these 4D things. They’re an original take on a mundane item that we’re legally compelled to nail to the ends of our cars. The amount I...

    Audi S3 (2015 6 speed) APR Remap

No, that’s what I’m saying. In fact I didn’t mention aftermarket kits at all. I’m saying that I think it’s there to remove water, because I’ve used exactly the same aero trick for exactly that purpose on a larger scale. I could have gone for air intake silencer, except that it looks like it...

    Audi S3 (2015 6 speed) APR Remap

Thats the statement that should ring the alarm bells. Why would VAG fit an intake restrictor, which will increase pumping losses, fuel use and emissions? It makes no sense. Why would VAG spend billions on emissions compliance and testing, fitting particulate filters, undergoing testing and...

    OPF delete

Is there a legal way of doing this? I know Akrapovic we’re working on OPF compliant exhausts, but they are big money... as is the fine for removal. £1000...

    Removing exhaust tips

Now you can do what I did. Polish them to a shimmering gleam, then chuck ‘em in a cupboard until the day you sell the car.

Nope. Just a light tap on the back edge will free it.

Hammer. get down on the ground, look underneath, apply light “percussive maintenance” to back edge of the tip.

    Next model A3

The Tesla does the same thing. No buttons, but if you say “my butt is cold” it turns on your seat heater.

    Next model A3

I’ve used a few, and have to agree that they’re generally awful. The one on my Ford is completely unusable on the move. The one on my Tesla is at least responsive enough to react at the same time you touch it, and with familiarity is actually pretty good but it still needs eyes-on to use it...
