TFSI 140 COD: vibrations in 2-cyl mode

I find all this completely baffling. I wonder if these issues are unique to the Audi version of this engine, since my Golf GT 1.4 ACT (manual) doesn't exhibit any of these symptoms. I've had the Golf for about a year now, and it is the smoothest most refined engine I have ever owned. There is...

TFSI 140 COD: vibrations in 2-cyl mode

I tend to drive it more like a diesel, exploiting the torque to keep the revs down, so when cruising it is mainly around or below 2000rpm. I've even tried deliberately increasing the throttle slightly, then backing off, which causes the cylinder mode to switch back and forth. Absolutely no...

TFSI 140 COD: vibrations in 2-cyl mode

As others have said, it must be something else. My Golf GT has the same engine, and there is absolutely no vibration of any kind. The switching between 2 and 4 cyl mode is completely imperceptible. Were it not for the display message, you wouldn't know it had switched.

    Awful economy on new engine

I have the Golf GT 1.4 ACT, which has the same engine, and I also live about 4 miles from my nearest town. That short journey usually averages 40-42 mpg starting from cold. (Car has now done 1200 miles). On longer runs (mixture of A and B roads, and dual carriageways), I always get between 47...

TFSI 140 COD: vibrations in 2-cyl mode

I have a Golf GT 1.4 ACT (manual), which has the same engine, purchased May this year. I have not noticed any vibration in 2 cylinder mode, at any revs. In fact, I have found it completely impossible to tell when the engine is in 2 cylinder mode, other than by observing the message on the display.

    SD Card for music

That's what I do too, but on my Mac. Incidentally, it's worth getting a useful app called OptimUSB (Download OptimUSB for Mac - Remove temporary files from flash drives and memory cards. MacUpdate.com), which deletes all the hidden files which the Mac puts on the SD card when you eject it.

    GALA

I gave up with this. After two trips back to the dealer, they claimed that it does work, but that it only applies a very small amount of volume increase. So it's useless basically.

    Time Change to BST

You and slipped_disc were right. I've just tried switching mine back to Manual Summer Time 'Off', and sure enough it subtracts the extra hour again. It's inexcusable really, since you have to set the time zone, so the software knows (or could be made to know) what the prevailing daylight...

    Time Change to BST

Press Menu, then Time, and you will see the options for GPS as source and Manual Summer time setting (on)

    Time Change to BST

Yes, it does switch to BST automatically, but the menu logic is bizarrely inverted. Mine was set to GPS as the time source, and Manual Summer time setting to 'Off' - so it should have switched, but didn't. As soon as I switched Manual Summer time setting to 'On', it switched to BST...

A3 assessed as a quiet car, just behind the Rolls Royce Ghost and Bentley Mulsanne!

Whilst I'm sure that the type of tyre does make a difference, I'm not convinced it is the main factor with the A3. The example I gave with the Golf proves that. It had 17" wheels and the exact same Pirelli tyres as my car, yet was night and day quieter. Incidentally, it had a much more...

A3 assessed as a quiet car, just behind the Rolls Royce Ghost and Bentley Mulsanne!

Baffling results. The tyre noise on my car is atrociously bad (17" wheels, Pirelli Cinturato P7). It is undoubtedly the worst car I have ever owned in that respect. I've also driven A3s with Michelin and Bridgestone tyres, and they were equally as bad. I also drove the Mk.7 Golf GT with...

Tiresome Road Noise & Ride A3 SB

I complained to my dealer about the tyre noise shortly after I bought the car, but they didn't want to know. They just said it varied with different makes of tyre. I've driven three A3s including my own, which had Pirelli (my car), Michelin and Bridgestone tyres. All are/were terrible for...

    Tyre roar

Both diesel - 1.6TDI SE and 2.0TDI GT. However just to be sure, my dealer is getting the petrol versions for me to test drive soon, just in case the difference in engine weight makes a difference.

    Tyre roar

I don't think so, but the road roar in my car seems to be coming up through the floor, rather than through the screen. I don't know whether the Golf has acoustic glass. The Golf GT I drove also had a considerably better ride than my car, despite being a 'sporty' model. Still firm yes, but...

    Tyre roar

I have an A3 8V 1.4TFSI SE and previously had an A3 8P 2.0TFSI S-Line. Whilst the engine noise in the 8V is a lot lower, I would say the tyre noise is about the same (ie. poor), even though my 8P had 18" wheels compared to 17" on the 8V. I've driven two other A3 8Vs, one had Bridgestone tyres...

What is the ride and tyre noise like in a Q3 ?

I currently have one of the new A3s (1.4TFSI SE model), and find the ride quality to be quite poor. Every slightest imperfection in the road surface can be felt, and the ride is constantly restless, jolty and jarring. And this is supposed to be Audi's 'comfort' suspension. Perhaps as...

Is the A3 a noisy car?

Not by much. Mine is an SE with 17" Pirelli tyres, and the road noise is very high on almost all surfaces. It's poor, considering the market segment that the A3 purports to be in. I wouldn't buy another one for that reason alone.

omg tyre pressure/cd eject issue !

Don't bank on it. My car has very poor tyre noise, and that's with 17's and SE suspension ! (Pirelli P7)
