Thats the price for the uprated clutch by the way
djlazyp - I would recommend upgrading your clutch as opposed to fitting the standard one back in. If your clutch is gone, I would also recommend replacing your flywheel.
The flywheel can be bought from buypartsby.co.uk for under £250 (compared to Audi's £600 and Eurocarparts' £300)

Sachs don't make a DMF
You use the stock LUK DMF which can be bought for £250 from buypartsby.co.uk
Sachs clutch from Sachs costs £550 so thats £800 plus £600 for fitting?? (£1400) You also have to buy the clutch release bearing from Audi but that's buttons in price in comparison.
It is a 5-6 hour job to fit all parts so you are getting charged £100 labour per hour??? seems a bit steep if you ask me!
A quick google search showed me this difference:
SMF = single mass flywheel
DMF = dual mass flywheel
The smf is a solid flywheel like most cars have, and they use a clutch disc with springs (damping) in it. The DMF is a dampened flywheel, two pieces that have springs between, and uses a clutch disc with no springs (damping). The downside to a dampened flywheel is that they wear out, and are expensive to replace, versus just surfacing a solid flywheel and replacing the clutch.

They can clunk when changing gear. It will make the car a bit more uncomfortable to drive or so I am led to believe.

im only running stage 1 and not really planning on going any higher i could have got an oem one fitted on warranty but it would have only gone again so think ive made the right choice i hope lol...

Have it done under warrenty - will mean you will have a brand new flywheel and clutch and all you would have to pay for is an uprated Sachs clutch!!

if you put a oem flywheel on it wont go again will it?????????? im uprateing my clutch. puting a sach one on. but a standard flywheel. paying 240 labour. ontop of the 550 from sachs and 250 for flywheel
I don´t know how much a OEM flywheel will last with a hard remap, but I guess that with a great mileage we will be fed up of replacing that DMF every X miles and we will be probably fitting SMF if there isn't any other way of solving the issue of the ****** DMF.
By the way, I think I will be getting the Sachs SMF in a few weeks. In spite of my english (I am spanish) I'll try to make a nice write up when is fitted!

This is my concern as well.
From what I understand the weak point on the OEM platform point seems to be the DMF and not the clutch?
If this is the case what is the point in replacing the DMF with another OEM one as surely if will fail again after a short amount of miles?
Does an uprated clutch extend the life of the DMF somehow?
wello sorrying for jumping in.An e0mail from helix today I was told then when fitting SMF flywheel 40% of the cars did that funny noise,but they said its not from the SMF flywheel or uprated clutch but from the gears in the box.They also said only tdi and s3 done it !They also said that the problem could be cured by adding 500ml of oil to the gearbox.

got it fitted nearly stalled it pulling away lol ...its not half as bad as what i thought it would be as some people said the pedal was really hard after the upgrde but its cool just needs a little bit of getting used to thiunk a week or so and i wont even know the difference
