Audi S-line

The front bumper valance is standard and not S-line.
The side door blades are flat so not S-Line
The exhaust tips have been changed - TDI's have hidden tail pipes - so the rear valance and tail pipes have been retrofitted.

The rear spoiler is S-line!

Also S-line parts from the factory are colour coded to the body.

Thanks!

Seats are s-line i think so are the original wheels and rock hard suspension. I think that front end was crashed in the past and because of that the front bumper is not original s-line.

Is there a picture of a original s-line???
I think that car was all factory s-line until an accident. Rear end was obviously tuned later, for a better look.

Front mask is from s4!
Ah yes, it has a BOSE sound system with 10 loudspeakers.

Can you please post pictures of a standard and s-line front bumper.
On my audi the front and rear bumpers are coloured in the same colour as the rest of the car.

do a search on google or pistonheads to find the pics.

Skramar - the seats and suspension look like they're standard "Sport" spec - which is the same as S-Line.

The only thing that is properly S-Line are the three retro-fitted badges, boot spoiler might be - check if you can read the "8e..." part number off from just above the Audi badge.

Look at "AudiSport"'s thread about his car. That is a pretty normal looking S-Line.

Note the door blades, colour coded lower body trim, scooper front-lower bumper, and two-part colour coded rear valance.

Your rear bumper is off a petrol Quattro (but not S-Line): TDI's should have a closed rear valance:

This is what a petrol rear valance looks like when fitted to a TDI (still with TDI tail-pipes):

Please note that those pics are of mine, and it is NOT an original S-Line, but I have retro-fitted original S-Line door blades and front and rear bumper trim to it (in TDI spec now - as per pic above, they messed up and put the petrol one on to start!!).

The killer detail that is pretty much never done on retro-fitted cars is the side skirts - the door blades give it the S-Line look from a distance, but when you open the door, it should have these:
A4-S-Line-Inside.jpg

I can't remember the exact price I was quoated (they're $600 in that link), so even more once you include spraying and fitting... so seldom done...

My does not have these on te doors.

So you can buy an A4 with a s-line suspension, seats and badges that is not an s-line??? I think that you can buy s-line exterior and s-line interior separately-so i heard.
The case with mine is that it is probably standard A4 with s-line interior (without s-line on the front doors) and s line badges and sport spec suspension. :uhm: Exhaust was retrofited for sure and rear bumper with it. :uhm:

What year is it? (If you're not sure check the seatbelt).
Sport versions were produced from 2000-2003, between 2004 and 2005 they were called S-Line.
As the guys have said above, they are essentially the same but the S-Lines have a quattro GmbH body kit which includes front and rear lower valences, door blades, rear boot spoiler, perforated steering wheel and gear knob, door sill stickers (as shown above) and badges on the rear doors.

It's not too hard to make a non S-Line, look like an S-Line to the untrained eye, and a lot of guys have done it quite well, but to be honest, S-Line is just makeup on a Sport.

Those are NOT "S-Line" seats, they are "Sports" spec seats... but they are the same seats that you get in an S-Line.

There were three specs up to 2003 (standard, SE and Sport), then from 2003 onwards they added "S-Line": which is a Sport (so those same Sports seats, 3-spoke steering wheel and same lower, firmer Sports suspension), but also has S-Line body kit (always colour coded, always has the door blades, S-Line door sills, etc as I detailed before).

Sorry, but there's no easy way to tell you this but somebody has spent £40 on S-Line badges off eBay and stuck those on: I've seen 1.9TDI's with S4 badges on... doesn't make them "S4's, but with a different engine".

I'm 99% certain that yours came out the factory as "Sport" spec, the one thing I am 100% certain it that it is definitely NOT S-Line, there is no way to order a partially S-Line car from Audi: you can specify extras that the Sport or S-Lines have (like those Sport seats, 3-spoke steering wheel, Sports suspension), but you can't "unspecify" the S-Line body kit...

The other 1% is that in MIGHT even be a standard / SE spec (but with Sport spec seats and steering wheel added). It's the only way that I think you could have got that car to look like that unless somebody has been swapping the wheels around a lot: those look like the 16" alloys that you got on the early-model (2001/2002) Sports Saloons and I thought that those same early 2.5 TDI Quattro Sport Saloons came with HID's (auto levelling Xenon lights and washers) as standard... they then later dropped the Xenon's but added 17" alloys. BUT that might only be in the UK and given that the previous owner has already added the 1.8TQS rear valance, visible exhaust and S-Line badges, there's a fair chance that they had upgraded their alloys and then traded them in for the 16's when they were selling the car.

If you paid a premium for it to be an S-Line, then take it back to the guy: if you only paid the regular price for a 2.5TDI Quattro Sport, then you still got a pretty sweet car and if you REALLY want it to look like an S-Line, then you can get somebody to change over all the non-S-Line parts for about €2000 (the parts alone cost about €1100-€1300)... or just do what most of us do and just cherry-pick the parts we think will make add the look that you're after...

I think I've done a particularly good job on mine :) I just couln't be ***** with the extra cost of adding those sills... well... well, maybe a S-Line that mugged a B7 S4... (satnav, 18" wheels and steering wheel) :arco:

Lostbok, what you have done is great and don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone who has done it as you have to make your car into what you like.
I also looked into S-Lining my previous car at Fontain, but thought that it was too expensive and imho i thought actually it would be better and cheaper to wait and get a real one when the opportunity arose to change, which i did and got a right cracker.

Thank you!
Mine is 2002. Now i understand, it is a spor spec for sure. I have 17 alloy wheels as standard for this car, this 16s are for winter tires only. It is a sport spec with sport(now s-line) interior for sure then. Suspension is rock hard. S4 mask, exaust and s-line badges where probably the upgrades from previous owner

You are very helpful, can you tell me something about the engine in mine.
Is it reliable? How many miles can go...

Thanks

tell me something about the engine in mine.
Is it reliable? How many miles can [it] go...

I assume yours is a genuine Quattro? So it'll be the 180PS (177bhp) 2.5 V6 TDI (same as mine), they are normally pretty reliable, but sadly not as reliable as the 1.9TDI... but as with all these things: it depends on wether the car has been well maintained. Most of them seem to be running over 150k miles (250,000km's), at which stage they seem to need a new clutch and often a new turbo. There's somebody on one of the Audi forums who's done about 260k miles (430,000km's) and he's taking it up and down the country at 140mph every week.

Key to keeping it running: regular oil changes and then make sure you get the cambelt done whenever it's due and make SURE they do the waterpump at the same stage.

The thing that's most likely to go on yours is the auto gearbox... they're usually pretty reliable, but I think there's some issues/debates around oil changes on them (AUTO owner please step in here!)....

...don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking anyone who has done it as you have to make your car into what you like.
No worries: I took it as the compliment I assume it was intended as ;) I agree: an S-Line is a Sport spec with some make-up... although I refer to it as "war-paint" :greyrs4:

I also looked into S-Lining my previous car at Fontain, but thought that it was too expensive and imho i thought actually it would be better and cheaper to wait and get a real one when the opportunity arose to change.
I would HAVE to agree with that, I just didn't tick all their options (well, I took off the Alloy Reps and door sills and it nearly halved the price): but it is always better to buy the spec you want, rather than tarting up a lower spec car (even if it is only applying the same "make-up" that's on the S-Line, the fact is it will ALWAYS say "Sport" on the V5C, so never worth the same).

The problem was that I needed to get a car that could cover a fair few miles soon-ish and I only had enough to get an early Sport spec: I wasn't even close on the 1.8T / 1.9TDI Quattro S-Lines... plus they're not that common, so decided to do it in stages: besides I really wanted the Quattro and prefered the 2.5TDI's meaty mid-range grunt when cruising, so that ruled a genuine S-Line... TBH, if they'd just colour-coded the lower bumpers out the factory, I probably would never have bothered with the S-Line bumpers.

Mine is a quattro 180 hp. it has 175000km. Di you have any problems with yours?
When to change oil, cam belts.... in kilometers

I assume you're referring to the original image site that had a lot of JavaScript stuff running... most noticably from "AddThis.com".... sorry should have spotted it, but i'm on Firefox with several layers of paranoid add-ons that block all that stuff from the start!

I'm not sure - check in the service book, but I think Oil is every 12 months or 10k-15k miles (so very roughly 15,000-20,000km's)... if you're doing just over 20k, then you'll probably be okay doing it annually... if you're doing mroe than that, then look at twice a year (and maybe doing it yourself ;) )... I just get mine done with the annual service.

Cambelt (and Water pump) is every 80k miles (130,000km's).

No problems so far aside from annual, routine servicing and replacing standard parts... and mine is on >210,000km's...

I think in the later B6's the sports came with the S-line bodykit. Like mine, from the factory.. I added the badges, wheels and mine looks similar to a Proper 1.8T S-line.. bar the extra exhaust pipe, sills strips, steering wheel etc.. oh and the 180bhp.. To the untrained eye its not too bad..

technics - yours is the FWD, so even in full S-Line form it would only ever have had the single exhaust.

I was wondering about that - I've seen a few people describe theirs as a "Sport" but it's clearly had the S-Line body-kit... sills aren't a biggy - its the front bumper and door blades that make it...

Werent the slines all 1.8t? because i had one with quattro. damn i miss that car.

Now that IS nice. :hubbahubba:
You just need to get rid of the front badge, then it will be :o.k:

Even to the trained eye, that looks like a proper S-Line, apart form the single pipe as you said.
I think from 2003, sports were fitted with the GmbH body kit as standard, it was in 2004 that the sport was officially renamed S-Line.

Well I didn't know that.

So what are the later model 1.9/2.5TDi's etc with an S-Line 'style' body kit then? Do they not have the full kit and are therefore not badged as such then?

There are several owners on here with S-line type fronts/rears etc - but minus the S-line badges, how are those models designated?

I have a 2004 avant with the GmbH kit on it but it's labeled up as a Sport, not an S-Line on the V5 docs.

Judging by previous comments this could be because it's a diesel as well though...

It all seems a little confusing as there are a few conflicting views!

Nor me ,theres 2 round were i live that are diesels with full GMBH kits on proper job interior trim the works and not owned by the sort of people to bother nor appreciate even having the S/line kit which if this is the case shouldnt be called an s/line kit at all.

Havnt seen you around for a long while mate

All right J7USS , still pop in and have a look now and then, i still have a B6 although its only a 2.0 fsi avant sport but its ok. I really do miss the sline ( had to change that for a Touareg for my second baby coming along), miss the power after its remap and especially the quattro when i could do with it now.

What Touareg have you got? What's it like. I'm looking at them for my wife.. selling her BMW 1 Series... if anyone is interested.

Mine has the single pipe, a FWD 1,8T and 2.4 will come with twin pipes, quattro or not, i think

Actually - you're right... I was getting confused with the A3 that I've got: 1.8T, but one very demure little pipe (looks more like the 1.9TDI!)...

All A4 1.9Tdi s i have seen have twin dropped pipes on one side

I think we are Anoraks... I would like to point out that my side s-line badges are the correct 50mm from the rear of the door trim.. I only I knew this much detail about work!!! I can also date a B5 A4 by side indicators and other small items... hhmmm.. I'll stop now

god knows what mine is. Got the side skirt's on with s-line badges on them. Got s-line door sill's on all 4 doors, full leather sports seats (dunno how you tell if there s-line seats). No front and rear spoiler and no rear valance. Its a 163 quattro (1.8T) with tiptronic though. (jap import).
