I managed to get hold of a nearly new mid and rear S3 exhaust system, mine is on it's way out so I'm aiming to get this fitted to my TQS.

I've had a search across the forum and I understand I need the S3 Hangers:

If anyone has done this before, can you tell me if I can get away with cutting back the rear heat shield rather than buying the S3 version?

Other than cutting the rear valence for the exposed pipes and getting an sleeve adapter to fit the bracket between the S3 centre section and A3 Cat, is there anything else I will need to get sorted?

best thing to do would be to get the car in the air and get the two systems side by side then youll know were your problems will be, imo its somtimes easyer to cut and weld hangers into place to suit but that all depends of if you have the tools to hand ect and iirc the a3 cat pipe and the s3 center section are the same size so you should be able to use the sleeve you already have, and to cut the heat shield just use some tin snips theyll be strong enough to cut it, what ever you do keep it on there other whys youll have problems like i did and end up almost setting your boot onfire and melting the haldex wires that run in the boot ooops was a bit of a mistake but all fixet now

Hmmmm.... this has got me thinking.... when i fitted mine i don't recall a heatshield at the rear.. :(..... i had better have a check..... it's been on twelve months though and i can't say as i've noticed any problems with the boot floor getting hot and the Haldex works fine..... i'm under it this weekend though for a couple of MOT jobs so i'll check it over then... if there's no shield and you say there should be i'll see what i can sort out... when i fitted mine i had to get a reducer made to joind the 2 different diameters of pipe.... and i re frabricated the origional mounts on the rear 2 hangers.... good mod for the quattro... made mine sound a lot more throaty :)

i should of taken a picture of the mess it had made lol i think it was more to due with the crack it had in it then not having a heat shield but it is a must have you dont realise how hot these back boxes get after a good run lol, im just sorting my system out over the last few weeks dam these sort days cant get anything done still havnt worket out were i quite wont it out of the bumper, under it, hidden or side exit
