small oil leak possibly turbo seals tho

when fitting my dp's yesterday i noticed oil on the back of the drivers side cylinder head right above the turbo and there was oil on the actuator arm and braided hose on the back of the turbo not a lot at all but i couldnt see if it was just a slight weep from the head above or from the turbo but it wouldnt leak upwards would it and there wasnt oil all over like it had sprayed out under pressure.
when the turbo oil seals go what happens oil leak wise????
the shafts were rock solid and span freely and i dont get any smoke from the exhaust, the garage i use mentioned a small oil leak a few months back from the engine and didnt mention a turbo oil leak so i'm hoping its just the rocker gasket weeping, how long do it take a turbo to die with ******** oil seals? or what other signs would i have?
 
I'm guessing its the rocker cover gasket myself, Mine looked as you've described. If the turbo was ******** it would smoke fairly badly out of the exhaust.
 
i really like your answer...i'll have a good look this week and see whats involved in changing the gasket i'll be fitting the new turbo heatsheilds i've just made today from furnace grade glass cloth, fireproof glue and aluminium foil it looks very much like the really expensive stuff shops sell, i left the original heat sheilds off like a lot of people do even mrc do from what i've read, but want to put something back to protect nearby wiring i might also make some sleeve's up for the pipework around that area.
 
it looks like the small black device with a sensor plug on the back of the cylinder head is weeping very slighly right above the turbo, can someone identify what this thing is or does please?
 
Camshaft chain tensioner oil seal is leaking.

i thought it would be camcover. the leak could be running down onto the tensioner seal.
 
its the camshaft adjustment valve n205, very hard to take a pic of it but i identified it from the 2.7t self study pdf document just a ver small weep from it

i also managed to refit my original turbo/dp heatsheilds this week as i didnt like not having them on, there was to much extra heat on wires and stuff, i had to trim them down a bit to cover just past the lamda's, where the pre-cats were. i like it looking nice and standard under the bonnet,
has anyone used the 3M 431 heat reflective tape in the engine bay or tesa 68000 its not cheap but would work a treat against heat soak
